Hi guys,

Just got my posting results yesterday and i managed to secure TP's Business Studies Grouping (T01) for my JAE and i was fortunate enough to secure a place in NP's Business Studies through JPSAE. I am currently caught in a dilemma between the 2 courses.

Factors that i had to consider between both were the travelling time as i stay in tampines which will make TP the more obvious choice hence my JAE but NP is reputable in it's business courses. All my seniors and teachers told me that it was about a 'Quality' diploma ( no offence ) and told me to go for NP.

can anyone pls advise? :( i know ultimately the decision is mine but i would love some input! Thanks for reading and have a good day!

All polytechnic diplomas in Singapore are the same in terms of employment opportunities and consideration of admission to universities.

Hi,

I agree with Bedokian that if you're applying for universities or looking for a job, it doesn't make a difference whether your cert is from NP or TP.

While traveling from Tampines to NP for 3 years seem like a blatant waste of time, do take note of other factors such as course structure, course mates and future progressions. The lecturers might be better, modules more relevant and if you decide to go overseas for your degree, the partner institutes that provide credit exemption.

and... NP is more fun la. :D

In my previous job, I was involved in the processing of business local-poly diplomas when the applicants applied for uni further studies.

I will tell you that there is virtually no difference at all, it is really on the same level. If you are staying at Tampines, then choose the one that is nearer to you.

true that. all the same, u end up with a poly diploma equally recognised in sg. unless its a newly set up course and only NP has it so far, then maybe u can consider going NP as they will have been in the business of teaching it longer and more experienced.

I'm a graduating business student in NP, though I took Tourism and Resort Management instead. Think you might have made your decision already, but here's my input anyway.

To be frank, I really think NP's diploma is recognised for its "quality" in business. Each poly has its own niche, and it's actually pretty well known in the academics field. NP for business, SP for engineering, TP for design and humanities courses. It really depends on how much effort you are willing to put into your studies.

Granted, no single course will be easy, especially in NP BS, where there are at least 200-300 students competing for the top grades. But if your goal is to get into local unis, then I would say it wouldn't really matter either way, just go and do your best. Your GPA has to be almost ridiculously high to get into NBS or NUS Business, ard 3.8 onwards, so you really need to maintain at least 85% As throughout your 3 years. HOWEVER, local unis know about the polys' niches so there is a underlying fact that moderation is given to poly applicants. I have heard that while in NP, getting a 4.0 perfect GPA in business is exceedingly rare, there have been cases where graduates were given moderation over applicants from say, SP. This is just hearsay la.

That said, I have a close friend in the same course who stays in Tampines, and travels 1 hour plus to NP everyday. At least we have a shuttle bus from Tampines, so it isn't too bad I guess.
