Anybody managed to get an update for the free Paragon NTFS for Mac that came with WD portable HDDs for the M1 chip Macs? Emailed Paragon and they said to email WD instead. Now waiting for reply.

If you have the success, please update here. Thanks.

I will dig into my old WD/Seagate USB HDDs to see if they have the bundled Paragon NTFS for Mac. I remember one of the drive has the bundled software but I have never used it. Previously I have a WD dual Firewire800/USB2 HDD for Mac, using HPFS+. Then I have exFAT formated USB HDD and a personal NAS for file sharing between Windows and Mac.

The Paragon website says that there is elegibility for a free upgrade.
https://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/#oem

But their reply says to email WD, then WD says to ask Paragon. So looks like there won't be any free upgrade available lor.

You are right.
Paragon website says the following.
*****
I’m a user of a Seagate or Western Digital device with pre-installed NTFS for Mac. How can I get my update?

You are eligible for a special update for you current version of Microsoft NTFS for Mac by Paragon Software. Please contact our Support Service at support@paragon-software.com to reclaim your update.

If they do not honor the above, the only option is to wait for WD/Seagate to release the upgrade version for M1, if that happens at all.

Right now I use two drive strategy.
1) Apple APFS formated drive with Time Machine. Just ordered a 4TB WD external drive for this one.
2) Microsoft exFAT formated 4TB USB drive for document backup, common with the Windows laptop. Windows laptop will have its own NTFS formated 4TB USB drive for backup as well.

Then I have faster external USB SSDs (256GB/512GB, exFAT) for temporary file sharing.
