THE MAJORITY OF ELECTED TAIWAN representatives rose up yesterday to impeach its anti-democratic leader William Lai Ching-te, an “autocrat” whose actions have “abolished parliament”, according to outraged civic leaders. A motion to begin Impeachment proceedings against the beleaguered leader were passed by Taiwan’s legislature on Friday (26 December 2025). The Legislative Yuan voted 60 to 51 to support steps to accuse Lai of demolishing the island’s constitutional order.
