Best everything on same drive, coz moving data between drives, while mostly safe, may risk corruption. I used to have 512GB OS SATA SSD and 4T HDD game drive i.e. whatever I wanna play, I move them over to the SSD, but move them back to HDD when not playing. Troublesome, but cost-effective. Now, I've ordered an 8TB NVME, so everything can be in one place. Playing on HDD is SLOW!

Either way is fine, most important you have backuped copy of your data.

I normally mirror my OS drive on 2x 2TB NVMe drives, and install games on the same drive too. Even for my living room retro-gaming PC.​

i think since most are data files, I will move them from the OS drive to the HDD

Can consider a NAS.

If not critical data, maybe a repurposed M.2/SATA SSD/HDD. Critical data like photos just store on the cloud.​

Normally important stuffs that you are frequently using should be on another nvme ssd.

But if you are archiving for example like storing impprtant files that you are just safekeeping for future use should be on a HDD. Cos hdd is more reliable for long term storage. Ssds cells will die if not powered for very long duration and the cells will degrade over time. I still have files that i stored on my WD 4tb drive from 20 years ago.
