LOL ok to make it a bit simpler:

If you want long travel, go with the Stumpjumper

If you want speed and fast handling, go with either the Epic or Anthem

If you want speed, fast handling and value for money, go with the Anthem

thanks pew and theoDR

you both actually make things simpler, short and sweet.nice.

to pew : why do you mention no need to add weight to the anthem/epic?what does that mean?

to theoDR: seriously, let say when we cycle and drop ourselves off some kerbs where you normally see between the walking pavement and the tarmac road, does the 3.5' rear shock able to cushion that?or will it bottoms out?

Anthem and epic is definately lighter

this kind of kerb, even hardtail can take, it's how u land. Always try to land on both wheels together and land as soft as possible. To mount kerb (maybe not as high as this) long travel, just need to lean back and cycle up, but for short travel fork, need to pull the front.

Usually slacker head tube angle will accomodate longer travel fork, but sacrifice on climbing.
Shorter the chainstay it is, the faster the acceleration.
If u are considering speed on tarmac, definately go for epic/anthem, cuz for stumpy, even with the brain shock, it is bobby...but nothing beats a hardtail. and tires play a very very important part.

Another thing to note.......all that i type is based on theory, i am a poser, not a rider :)

LOL welcome.. The 3.5" rear shock will be able to cushion and not bottom out if it is pumped up properly to match its air pressure with your weight.

E.g. my Anthem matched to my weight won't bottom out when going off the kerb with my butt planted on the saddle.

But my Anthem matched to my weight but with a 200kg guy on it definitely will bottom out (I think) if he goes off a kerb with his butt planted.

If you want your Epic/Anthem to be even lighter and don't mind some flexiness up front, you can change out the Fox fork to a Rock Shox SID. But having tried both, I personally prefer the much stiffer Fox for the confidence it inspires and gives me. :)

Dollar for dollar, GT offer better components, but cannondale's paintwork and welding is fantastic. Geometry wise, got to try

With $800, get a wheeler or Giant 27 speed MTB will do. Doere shifter, derailler, chain and seal BB plus light aluminium frame. More than enough for weight, speed and durablility. Change the tire to a fast trolling one. I guess performance will improve further..

If I am not wrong, scott scale is not full sus bike. For often off road riding, getting a full sus bike is better. Get something like KHS XC-104!!

if you intend to use scale in off road,i dont think it's a problem la.it would be good if you wanna do climbing.

else, wait for theoDR and pew to see what else they will say la,cuz they more experience in the off rd scene.i seldom off rd la,also just started getting the kick of it.

but was aiming for a FS

Scale Ltd is a poser bike. The frame is sub 1kg. I wouldn't brng it offroad unless my frame is sponsored. Looks like those buang 1 time, break 1 time kind.

M friend has got 1, refuse to bring it offroad
