from what i read you need itunes 11.1 to sync with ios 7

But again, no matter how secure is ios7, matter of time there'll be loophole

Maybe apple wants their devices, once lost, uncovered, no value or use to it. But again, there'll still be some value to its hardware

I'm getting a lot of apps update on the apps on my iPhone becoming iOS 7 compatible.

You guys will like what you see after updating to iOS 7 and updating the apps.. Make sure you are near a wifi source.. iOS 7 is around 1.2gb big.. lol

Yes you can, just use iTunes 11.1 to update. But backup first please.

Usually the iTunes update will be released first followed by the ios. Wonder why this time is different..
