I went to Okinawa end Nov last year for about 7 nights. I am no expert to recommend but I can share my experience.

Okinawa is not a big island and I rented a car so I decided to stay at only 2 places to cut down the hassle of checking-in and out of hotels.

To explore the northern side of the island, I stayed at the Marriott Resort and Spa. I managed to get the rooms on sale for about $150 per night for a 45 sq m (huge by Japanese stds). The place outstide of Nago (main city in the north), is quiet and abit dated. But since I had a car, it was not difficult to move around. The hotel has plenty of facilities like gym, in-door swimming pool, restuarants. Friendly staff as well. The beach is about 400 m from the hotel and the hotel has a shuttle that brings you there, If you want a hotel with pte beach front, you can explore hotels such as Best Western, Interconntinental, which are around the same area as Marriott. I also have friends who had stayed in hotels near the Okinawa Aquarium, the Motobu area. That area is beautiful too and very popular. You can consider that area as well.

The other hotel I stayed is the JAL Naha hotel in Naha, right in the center of the Kokusai Dori shopping street (equivalent of our Orchard rd). Rooms are small abt 23 sq m. But very clean hotel with efficient staff. Very convenient location. I think it was about $150 per night too. The price was high during that period because there was a Naha International Marathon so the prices went up and hotels were full. I think any hotel along the Kokusai is good. I passed by the Blossom hotel (also along Kokusai) and it looks new and nice with plenty of eateries around that area. If you need to take the LRT frequently, you may want to consider hotels that are very near the 2 LRT stations which are situated at each end of the Kokusai street.

Hi WS5656,

Really many thanks for the recommendation. I was looking t Marriott resort as well. But looking for a room with 3 persons doesnt look cheap to me as of now. Hopefully I can see a deal like yours and I will be happy. Hahaha.

I was also looking to stay at 4 areas. 1 night at american village area. 1 night at beach resort. 2 nights at nago area. 3 nights at naha area.

Does marriott need to pay parking fee? Do you happen to know of any hotels in the american village?

Once again really appreciate your recommendations!

Why do you want to stay a night at the American Village area? You can do the American Village in half a day. To me, there's nothing much to shop there. Pretty boring place. We were done in like 2 hours. There's 6 of us and none of us fancied the shopping there.

We stayed at Tissage Hotel Naha by Nest and Naha-West Inn.

i just came back from okinawa, we also had 3 adults.
I stayed in the following hotels: (Price is per night)

FOC Parking for Guest
Onna: kanehide kise beach palace (190+) - not worth staying, but I wanted to do the blue cave snorkel so I chose to stay here since they had a tour operator within the hotel premises. We got upgraded to a higher level room with view.

Nago: Centurion resort (50+) -> This was the only hotel that included breakfast, overall very good value for money!!! The room could easily house more than 3 pax comfortably.

Nanjo: Yuinchi Hotel Nanjo (180+) - If you like onsen, you got to stay here, if not don't bother to stay in Nanjo cos there is nothing much here, and the hotel is up on the hill. We got upgraded to a nice room with beautiful view.

PAID PARKING (so i returned the car once i got to Naha city)
Naha: Community & spa central hotel (170+) - 2-3 mins walk to Kokusai Dori, the hotel was pretty alright but the East Tower had a mouldy smell even though the lobby was impressive.

Hi dilphinus,

Actually reason was just to stay there on the 1st night when on the way from airport towards nago. Cause most probably first day I be heading to factory outlet and some shopping area like Mega Don Quijote Ginowan, Aeon Rycom or attraction Nakagusuku Castle or Cape Zanpa. By the time I finish all these I believe I should be around the american village area. Or do you have a better suggestion on where I should stay?

1 night at Intercon Manza (wanted to try out the private beach), 2 nights at Nago and 4 nights at Naha?

I can share my itinerary for my 1 week trip to Okinawa late Nov 2018. I hope you find it useful. Some other friends who went to Okinawa did cycling, snorkelling, diving, etc but the water is cold in Nov.

Kokko Shokudoコッコ食堂/民宿コッコ
This home-eatery deserves an article to itself. There are basically only two items on the menu, but both are so delicious. Whether you have the soba or the rice set, you will be having the same hot and yummy chicken broth. It has all the wholesome goodness of Grandma’s home cooking. The Okinawa soba called “Jidori Ougon Soba (golden soba with local chickens)” is that the chicken broth soba topped with a fluffy egg omelet and flavorful chicken meat.

Shaved ice desserts. There are at least two places that sell these for around 500 yen each. Lots of flavors are available, but I’d go for the purple yam just because it has a more local flavor about it. The larger shop is extremely spacious, and has a crafts display where you can pick up some souvenirs to bring home. Both shops are along the main road that lead past the entrance to the Fukugi Tree Trail right down to the beach parking lot.

Addr : 905-0207 Okinawa Prefecture, Kunigami District, Motobu, 355Bise

Bise Fukugi Trees Roadフクギ並木
Bise Fukugi Trees, which is a windbreak to protect the seaside village, is a beautiful area. As the old style of tiled-roof houses remain here and there, and the nostalgic sceneries spread out in this area. If you have a thing for quaint old villages straight out of a picturebook, then Bisezaki is right up your alley. Carefully preserved, the houses with their zinc roofs and wooded environs date back several decades. For nature lovers, the Fukugi Tree Trail is a must-do.
Estimated distance from Churaumi Aquarium : 1 km via 県道114号線

Cape Bise
Everyone comes here to take in the crystal-clear waters. you can choose to wade into the shallows or strap on a mask and take a dip, you will see colorful schools of fish swimming all around you. even if you don’t want to get wet, you will still get to enjoy amazing underwater views of marine life in their natural habitats.

A remote island named Kouri Island is approximately 8 kilometers in circumference, and it is accessible by car. Day 3 - North Okinawa

It is a popular destination for both sightseers and hikers.

The waterfall can be accessed in an attractive and easy hike along a nature trail through the forest. The trailhead is about two kilometers inland from the main road along the island's western coast. At the trailhead there is a gate where an entrance fee must be paid. From there, the distance to the waterfall is about 1.5 kilometers, and the hike takes about 40 minutes one way. The trail is well maintained, and there are quite a few steep sections with stairs along the way. One of the highlights of the walk is crossing a suspension bridge that spans a valley 17 meters below.

The trail comes to an end at the Hiji Waterfall, which makes an impressive sight. Nestled in the forest, the waterfall is about 26 meters tall. The sound of the running water and the tranquil atmosphere of the forest make the waterfall a good spot for a rest before making the return trip to the trailhead.

Starting around the Naha Bus Terminal and Prefectural Hall, Kokusaidori is lined by restaurants, cafes, bars, hotels, souvenir shops, boutiques and department stores. Many shops remain open until 10pm, and live Okinawa music is played at several restaurants.

Also in this area is the Daiichi Makishi; a rustic public market with vendors selling an array of meat and seafood as well as inexpensive dry goods such as household items. Day 5 - South Okinawa

War Memorials
 Former Navy Underground Headquarters
 Himeyuri Monument
 Peace Memorial Park

Near the end of World War Two, Okinawa Honto became the site of one of the war's bloodiest battles, when the US forces invaded and occupied the island. An estimated 200,000 people, including more than 100,000 civilians and 12,500 Americans were killed in the battle, which lasted from April to June 1945. The devastating effects of the war had a profound impact on the Okinawans, and there are a number of monuments and museums relating to the period throughout Okinawa Honto. The worst fighting of the battle took place in the south, and that is where some of the larger monuments have been constructed.

Peace Memorial Museum
Hrs : 0900-1700 Admission : ¥300 Estimated visit duration : 60-90 minutes (museum only)

A few kilometers west of the Peace Park stands the Himeyuri Monument (Himeyuri no To) with an adjacent museum. It commemorates the fate of female high school students, who worked in army field hospitals in caves under horrendous conditions. Most of them did not survive the war.

Another thought provoking, war related site is the Former Navy Underground Headquarters, which consists of several hundred meters of underground corridors and rooms that served as the Japanese navy's headquarters during the war. Many sailors committed suicide in these tunnels, after their situation had grown hopeless towards the end of the battle. Visitors can see in one area a room whose walls have been riddled with shrapnel from a grenade.

Only ruins remain of the castle today, but these are well preserved, and the castle's division into multiple citadels can still clearly be recognized. There are also nice views of the surrounding area and Nakagusuku Bay from the castle ruins.

Tsuboya (壺屋) is a district in central Naha that is the center of Tsuboya Pottery, Okinawa's most famous pottery type. The neighborhood is home to a variety of attractions including Tsuboya Odori Pottery Street and the Tsuboya Pottery Museum.
Tsuboya Odori Pottery Street is a stone-paved road that winds approximately 300 meters through the neighborhood and constitutes its epicenter. The Tsuboya Pottery Museum stands at the western end of Tsuboya Odori Pottery Street and displays a collection of Tsuboya pottery from different eras, illustrating the history and techniques involved in the craft

The Tsuboya Pottery District is located about 400 meters south of Kokusaidori Street in central Naha. One end of the district is located at the end of the Heiwadori shopping arcade, which begins on Kokusaidori. The other end of the district can be reached in a ten minute walk from Asato Station along the Okinawa Monorail.

Loved Okinawa when visited early this year (except for the flight timing). I am assuming that you will be doing a self-drive.

Since there are 3 person and also to minimize the constant shifting of accommodation, I would recommend that you stay in a central area (e.g. Urama) and move around as Okinawa is not really a big island.

I did a airbnb at Urama area (near to the main expressway but not near until you can hear the noise) and drove up and down the island. Cape Hedo is 1.5hrs drive away, Naha is 1hr away and the Aquarium is also about 1 hr drive. The airbnb I had was very good, central location, near to supermarkets, clean, double storey 2 toilets, 4 BR and can park 3 cars. Do msg me if you want the details.
