I'm contemplating to bring my parents on a trip next Feb, right after CNY. Since the 2 elders are quite paranoid about (so-called) radiation, I'm looking at Okinawa. Planning to focus only on the main island.

Haven't seen any trip reports for February..wondering if anyone can enlighten me if it'll be rainy? Cool temperature still can tahan...raining would be really depressing.

Planning to get there via Taiwan, and TPE-OKA using Peach. Any one tried this or heard any reviews?

TIA

Unless you are planning to take a side trip at taipei, it will be more expensive to fly from Taiwan than to fly to Tokyo and take the domestic discount ticket.

here is my trip review for okinawa, but it is in nov:
http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/j...mano-okinawa-9-nov-24-nov-2012-a-3994176.html

okinawa is a tropical island, so the weather do not deviate much throughout the year. the raining seasons are in the middle of the year, and after that is the typhoon season till oct or nov. so it is ok if u are going in feb.

while it is not very cold in feb (15-20 degrees), it is still too cold for sea sport to the japanese. so if u are planning for water related activities, it is not the best time to go

there are various ways to get to okinawa
1. SIN -> TPE -> OKA (via china airline)
2. SIN -> HKG -> OKA (via cathay pacific)
3. SIN -> KIX -> OKA (any airline + peach)
4. SIN -> NRT/HND -> OKA (ANA, JAL, SQ etc + domestic add-on)

option 1 and 2 are probably the most convenient and is cheap if there are promotions.
option 3 is cheap if u can get cheap tickets to kansai and look out for peach promotion
option 4 is not as cheap, using the 10,000yen domestic add-on option for those international carriers

Just curious, issue of radiation aside, why do Singaporeans go to Okinawa? I mean, Okinawa is quite similar to any tropical country right? Even going to Kenting, TW seems cheaper than Okinawa if you are tired of ASEAN.

tt is like saying maldives and bintan are similar coz they are both beach resorts. every place will have their own uniqueness that sets them apart.

and with JNTO promoting okinawa aggressively this year, so it is not unusual that people will be interested in it. taiwan ppl have been raving about okinawa in their travel shows, travel guides and in forums for years, so i guess ppl will be keen to experience it themselves.

but to be honest, i was quite disappointed after visiting okinawa, not because it is 'similar to any tropical country', but because it doesnt have a 'japanese' feel to the whole place. the aquarium though is really one of the best in the world. the sentosa one doesnt even come close

Thanks all. evilerniex I've read your review thx..will definitely go to the aquarium. I guess no tourist would miss that.

Thx for the suggestion but my parents won't consider kyushu..they wont even consider transiting NRT or KIX! o_O Now looking to fit flight schedules of scoot and peach...and to do a taipei side trip.

When you mentioned Japanese feel to the place, is it mostly due to the weather or the environment (people, buildings, etc) is the same as other tropics?

mostly due to environment, such as food and ppl. okinawa food is closer to chinese/taiwan food, with things like pig intestines and fats

Woohoo my trip will materialize 18~26Feb. 4 nights okinawa followed by 4 nights taipei!

I've booked LCC for the whole trip. SIN-TPE via Scoot and TPE-OKA via Peach. Booked all for sectors individually and per pax cost is S$557 with seats and baggage. If I had siam-ed scoot's processing fees and forgo seat selections, can control cost to S$536.

Scoot departs changi at 1am, and then I'll have plenty of breakfast time at taoyuan before peach departing at 1035. Will reach naha at 1pm, so travel time is not too bad.
