Open air i.e. no casing improves cooling?

Does keeping the PC casing open or leaving the mobo in the open air without a proper casing improves cooling? Just wondering.

Yes, esp if you have air con. But it will get dusty more quickly.

Inspired by those mining rigs I saw in SLS. They built them using shoe racks and small metal racks, and leave them running.

Mining is on a different scale. If you use enclosure for it, it will make the whole pc more hotter and it will DMG the gpu, and they are better to be under a Aircon.

If you are those kind whom are lazy to deal with cleaning your rig every few months, then it is best to have your rig inside the case.

I am one who makes this common mistake. Planning for new rig next year when the Ryzen APUs come out. Will go for ultra small build - no GPU, sub 4 liter build. Try to mount on back of display using VESA mount.

The two main problems with not having a case is that there will be alot of dust buildup and will look very ugly without a case also. And if water accidentally gets spill on those hardware not going to be good. If you are fine with that then go caseless then. Better to get a good chassis with good airflow then to go caseless I recon. Cooling wise yes will improve but not worth it. A good chassis with good airflow can cool equally well. Just get a good chassis with good mesh front intake with good airflow is best.

It's very easy to clean and access an open case. The cleanest setups, in the long run, are entirely caseless.

Unless you have positive pressure and carefully filtered intakes, a case is going to trap and collect more dust rather than prevent dust build up. Since filters simultaneously reduce air flow and increase noise, I've always found it wiser to clean more frequently (both the local environment of the system and the system itself) than to rely on filters.And insects can crawl in any small openings in a case if it wanted too.

Fyi I'm using the core p3 in 1 of my system and it's not as dusty as peeps makes it out to be cause most parts are mounted vertically.

Agreed. Saw a video on an inwin s frame rig after a year or so. The dust build up is very minimal and can be blown away with compressed air easily.

This doesn't make sense at all. Do you think its easier to clean filters and flat surfaces on the outside of a case rather than the motherboard with all the components on it?

It is obvious that without a case, the rig will typically run cooler since the fan gets all the cool air it wants. However as many have already pointed out, dust accumulates on it extremely quickly. Look at any fan at your place and you can tell how fast and much dust accumulates on them.

A case also acts as a protective shell in case you accidentally hit say the graphic card when using the comp, it should not damage anything.
