Opening Video from Thecus N2310

I just bought a N2310, and it takes 8s to open a video file from it. No matter how big (4GB) or how small (700 MB), it's always 8s. From all computers in my house as well.

Kinda strange to me and I'm not familar with NAS's speed, so just want to check with the bros here on what are the possible bottlenecks?

Sharing a folder from my com and opening it from another com is instantaneous though.

Ok, I have found the bottleneck. The bottleneck is in the splitter. I'm using klite.

I tried VLC, it opens immediately. I tried the vanilla MPC-HC, it works too. So I uninstalled everything and installed the latest version of klite, it works. Because it's using LAV decoder nowadays while I was still on Haali and FFDShow.

However, I don't like LAV as video post processing is pretty limited, so I installed the standalone FFDShow to decode only H.264. Trying again, it opens immediately as well.

So the bottleneck should be the Haali Media Splitter. Guess thread closed.

Anyway, for those who want to know my first thoughts on this NAS:

It is very unreliable
It takes very long to startup (about 4 minutes), if it even starts up at all. 4 out of 5 cold boot results in a red LED, signalling bootup faulty. I usually just kept restarting it until it boots.

I transferred about 1.5 TB of files overnight, and the connection broke halfway. I'm pretty sure no one was anywhere near my network equipments at 3am in the morning. The connection is unstable.

Firmware isn't very well coded
If an IP wasn't assigned during bootup, it won't be assigned until you restart it. So if you restart your router after you plugged it in, you have to restart the NAS as well for it to detect. I'm using an Asus N56U on Padavan.

It is very fast
I get 110MB on both read/write on ATTO, on a Samsung f4 2TB. Which is pretty much the peak. RL transfer speed is around 75MB/s for write and 90MB/s for read.

Construction is very flimsy
I have a hard time slotting the hard disk into the slot. I also suspect it doesn't really slot in nicely as well, as it doesn't detect the HDD most of the time. I have to use a screwdriver to push the HDD further in (a little) for the HDD to be detected.

The HDD don't sleep
I'm not sure how long the HDD will last. It doesn't sleep when idle. Would strongly reco WD red with this NAS.

It cannot power down
Except if you pull out the AC. Holding the power button wont power it down despite what the manual says. I waited about 15 mins after holding it for a min.
