Just use hyperdia and explore your options there. In Japan for me, time is often more important than costs.

Possible to take normal MRT instead of shinkansen?

use hyperdia to check the route.

there is no shinkansen from osaka to kyoto. shinkansen from shin-osaka to kyoto have.

but not point taking shinkansen coz the distance is so short and the time saving is little if any.

normal train from osaka station to kyoto station is just 30min

yup i just did this route in december.

BUT it depends on where you stay in Osaka and Kyoto.

You can take the Kintetsu line from Namba station in Osaka to Kawaramachi station (transfer at Awaji station) in Kyoto, where the main shopping belt is.

Very reasonable at 630 yen per adult.

However, if you choose to stay around Kyoto station area in Kyoto, then better to take Shinkansen, or the limousine bus between Osaka and Kyoto.

even for kyoto station, osaka station to kyoto station is only 30min and cost 560yen via normal train. no need for shinkansen. shinkansen cost abt 3k yen, and takes around the same time as u need to take normal train to shin-osaka to change to shinkansen
