hi all. i am totally new to overclocking and i just want to weigh the benefits of OC.

planning to use a 4690k with h110. is it possible to OC it to 4.5ghz stable?
does it increase the power drawn significantly and whether the performance gain is worth the electricity bill?:s13:

thanks in advance!

For gaming performance wise, extremely slim. Less than 5% even if you overclock to the highest speed possible for most game and most of the time.

Look at this video

For non gaming stuff like rendering, video editing, you will see slight improvement.

It is like winning a lottery. Not all 4690K are capable of achieve similar results. You might get a 4690K that can only get up to 4ghz and any higher will crash or 4.8ghz with minimum voltage increment.

Overclocking does not improve gaming performance significantly. The price to performance ratio is extremely terrible.

You get either the following with an Asrock H81/B85 mobo depending on budget and needs:

-i5 4460 stock speed @ ~$330
-i5 4690K 3.9GHz with MCE @ ~$413
-i7 4790K 4.4GHz with MCE @ ~$545

Haswell OCing has too much uncertainty and opportunity cost to be any worthwhile for most people.

Don't bother with OC lah, not worth it. Just get H97 board, 4690. Savings go buy better GPU/peripherals

Hi TS, OC because you can. Its fun! Dont let others dampen yourself. Back on track, 4.5ghz is definitely doable for 4690k (even the bottom third can manage a stable 4.5).
