Hi guys, my aunt is in the US and apparently she misplaced her iPhone 6 plus and would want to purchase one in the US.

However, she's not too sure which telco comes with unlocked iPhone as she wants me to double check before she goes to a mobile shop to purchase one.

Any idea guys ? Does T-Mobile or Verizon works with local network ?

Thanks in advance :D

So far only T-Mobile iPhone 6/6 Plus models are unlocked. I believe that your aunt should just head to Apple's Online Store and order a SIM-free model, which Apple US just started selling this week.

The T-Mobile Unlocked iPhone models come with a T-Mobile SIM Card in the package while the SIM-Free version comes just like any unlocked iPhone and you can use any SIM card with it. Both models cost the same. Verizon model works with CDMA networks so it is not compatible with our SG network(GSM).

just needed to correct this part.
The iPhone 6 and 6plus are worldwide phones. With regards to the verizon model, they also work with the GSM network.
The Verizon model is also unlocked.

Do take note that the iPhone may initially be required to be switched on in the US to be unlocked.

Oops my bad! GSM phones do not work with CDMA networks while CDMA phones will work with GSM. Thanks for rectifying!

they will, at their own discretion, after "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz" numbers of days/weeks/months/years

Some have reported that if they call up the telco and say that they're going overseas, the telco will unlock the phone. I'd recommend not to take the risk though; everyone's mileage may vary anyway.
