Hi all, I currently have a rig that was recommended years ago by members here. It's been 5 years and I did not have the time to upgrade.

Below are my specs.

intel i5-2500k
asrock z68 extreme 4
kingston ddr3 1333mhz 4gb x 2
WD 1TB black 64mb 3.5" SATA3
LG 22X Sata DVDRW
Sapphire 2gb 6950 DDR5
FSP 600W avrun series gold 80+
cooler master storm enforcer casing
running on MS win 7 home premium 64bit (upgrade to Windows 10)

Basically I use it as a gaming PC for D3 and Starwars battlefront. Recently, my PC has some weird sound so I suspect my WD is going to spoil soon.

Need some advice on whether I should just get a new rig. Budget should be around $1,800.

Thanks again!

SSD
GTX970

If your PSU is 5 years old, change to superflower PSU.

Still a lot of mileage left in your CPU also. Maybe invest in a good AIO and overclock?

Follow zenniz and get ssd and upgrade GPU and PSU.

And clean out the dust.

Regardless of whether you keep the current rig or build a new one, replace the HDD asap before you lose your data.

What is your current PSU? How old? If u are using FSP 600W arum S series gold 80+ then should be sufficient but its better you get the Seasonic ones.

hi gld998, current psu is FSP 600W avrun series gold 80+. since may 2011 I think. which seasonic is good?

Since I will be bringing my rig there, might as well change some of the parts so that it can last me for the next 4-5 years. lol:s13:

maybe new PSU ba, people mostly scared old PSU will blow up :s13:

a SSD and GTX970 would be good :s13:
if you never overclock can consider a 212X (on budget) or H100i (but check to make sure it fits)

so in conclusion IMO
Crucial BX200 250GB @115
WD Blue 1TB @77 (since you say HDD failing why not)
Zotac GTX970 @479
Seasonic M12-II 620W @115 (if you want to replace)
Coolermaster Hyper 212X @ 69 (for budget tower cooler) or Corsair H100i GTX @179 (for closed loop water cooling)
