My Samsung TV has the following options for digital output. What would be the correct setting if I output this via optical connection to a 2.1 speaker system (Bose Cinemate II)?

So PCM is the best setting?

PCM is Stereo or 2 channel, Dolby Digital and DTS are surround sound
format in either 5.1 channel and etc.
Firstly I have search on the net, I assume this is the Bose Cinemate II
not the GS version right?

Accordingly to website the speaker supports either PCM or Dolby Digital.
http://bose.wikia.com/wiki/2.1_home_entertainment_systems

Thus I would recommend setting to Dolby Digital.
However do take note of the source you are playing.
If the video like Youtube despite you have to set it to Dolby Digital.
It will run on PCM/Stereo channel.

Nothing wrong about this since the source is in Stereo format, unless you are playing Netflix or DVD that have Dolby Digital soundtrack than you will enjoy Dolby Digital.

For game console like PS4 and etc. remember to set to Dolby bitstream.
Hope this helps.

既然你嘅聲吧係2.1系统,電視数码音響輸出設為pcm或dd都無麽分别。。。
。。。就如techie師兄提到嘅,有些媒体聲源,唔支持杜比数码音響。。。最安全都系設定為pcm啩。。。

Sorry it's the Cinemate GS Series Ii

I read the PCM is the best as it's uncompressed and you get the most detail, and Dolby is basically compressed formats? So wouldn't PCM be the default best setting?

Right, so PCM is always then best default mode u less your receiver/speakers or source don't support, in which case you use one of the other sources?

The fact is correct. for my experience it depend on the source.
If you have Dolby Digital movies, you would want to play it in Dolby track
instead of PCM mainly due to the surround effects and environment.

You can play around see which suits you.
For me I am using a much modern soundbar, difference between PCM
and Dolby track is noticeable not sure about this BOSE speaker that you are using.

Cheers.

Thanks. Meaning if my hardware (speakers) support or is able to simulate Dolby then it may be worth using that setting. But if traditional 2-channel speakers it would be better to stick to PCM. Makes sense. Thanks

Soundbar these days most are 2.1 channel but they can render Dolby/DTS
very well.
Other than speaker, do take note of the audio format that you are playing.

Like if Youtube it is usually in PCM/Stereo, Netflix Dolby Digital and etc.
Hope this helps.
