Phone battery stops charging

Recently my 1.5 year old phone when left overnight to charge would sometimes only charge halfway and stop without reaching 100%.

2 days ago, it stopped at 35%. Yesterday it charged back up to 100% as normal.
Today it stopped at 65%.

Why is this happening? Battery spoil already?

it shouldn't be battery issue. there isn't any circuitry to limit charged % on the battery itself.

it could be the phone itself having error be it software or hardware

What is controlling the battery charging from charging beyond its capacity limit? The phone or the battery itself?

I also notice the battery drain is quite fast.

100% charged used for 90 minutes for web browsing only would drain away 30% leaving 70% remaining. Drains 20% per hour under active use (screen on, web browser running, with mobile data/Wi-Fi)

sorry to ride on, im kind of experiencing same problem lately.

when charge, its fast as normal. until ard 78%, its like slow down the charging. after that, charge fast as per normal.
when show 100% fully charge, i pulled out plug & immediately dropped to 88%.

battery usage is normal until when it reach 29%, it suddenly dropped very fast. the moment i charge it, hp was immediately turned off as if battery totally flat.

during charging, its back to the above issue.

am using note 5 currently.

wonder is it charger problem or hp itself?

Time to change battery? Happened similarly to many other brand phone i owned as they r all lithium...
