Synopsis from movieweb.com:

Poltergeist Plot Legendary filmmaker Sam Raimi (“Spiderman, Evil Dead, The Grudge) and director Gil Kenan (Monster House) contemporize the classic tale about a family whose suburban home is haunted by evil forces. When the terrifying apparitions escalate their attacks and hold the youngest daughter captive, the family must come together to rescue her before she disappears forever.

The original Poltergeist, an iconic film directed by Tobe Hooper and co-written by Steven Spielberg, made us fell in love with the Freeling family and fear for their plight. The remake, already doomed to be in the shadows of that classic horror upon conceivement, is projected to debut on the U.S. weekend boxoffice at #4 with a 34% rotten rating at rottentomatoes.com.

Critics' Consensus: (from rottentomatoes.com)
Haunted house movies never seem to go out of style, as The Conjuring, Insidious, and Paranormal Activity demonstrate. Now, an update of Poltergeist tries to out-scare the competition, but unfortunately, critics say it's a professional but lackluster chiller with little to distinguish it beyond its brand name. Strapped for cash, Eric (Sam Rockwell) and Amy (Rosemarie DeWitt) move their family into a suburban fixer-upper. Soon, however, their three children are bedeviled by mysterious supernatural entities, while Eric and Amy discover what happened to the house's previous occupants. The pundits say Poltergeist offers up a few decent scares, but it's a far cry from the inventive, iconic 1982 original.

Anyone caught this? Is it worthwhile to spend a lazy weekday afternoon watching?

If you have a liking for nostalgia it would be nice to catch. But if you are looking for a good scare I would not suggest watching it.

Ghostly TV noise is hardly relevant in our time...

This movie is the most unnecessary remake for 2015!

Offers nothing new to the previous one.

It might thrill those who haven't seen Hooper's original version, but 80's movie is still a classic. The 3D Visual Effects were amazing & the Clown scene in this movie was amazingly scary.

I think the remake was ok to watch. Its Evil Dead's style is a change from the recent over-used spooky style that you see in movies like insidious, conjuring, etc.
