Hi guys, just got posted to my new Combat unit for unit life in NS and I would like to seek advices regarding an old injury that worsened due to the intensive training in BMT. I fractured my left elbow in my primary school days and it left me a disability where i cannot fully rotate my wrist anti-clockwise.( Give a thumbs up on your left hand, try turning it so that your thumb points at the 9PM direction, mine only reaches 11pm). Push ups and pro long rifle handling results in a sharp pain down my wrist for example.

I was told to write a statement upon entering my new combat unit stating my injury and I’ll have to sound off if i feel any pain on my left elbow to wrist at any point of time. I was told during my PC interview that I can perform other forms of punishment to avoid straining my wrists should that happen. However, I’m still worried about my wrist since it’s a combat vocation and I would want to avoid potential straining which can injure my wrist further. (My combat unit is slightly unique as well as we operate mainly on a platform vehicle .)

I also got a referral to a specialist from a polyclinic doctor. The doctor did state that surgery should be required and will take a few weeks to recover.

Can I downpes for something like this, especially once surgery is done?If so,possible for me to down my Pes to perhaps C or a unit with no physical training at least without getting any backlash from my unit? If not, what should I do? I’m quite concerned about my long term health and afraid about the sheer amount of things to catch up with what my peers are learning... Many thanks in advance!

Note:I did not really declare during my CMPB Pre-Enlistee as I did not think my injury would worsen.

1) I am pretty they did say that you are supposed to declare all health issues in the past. you know it is chargeable offence for withholding such information right? In case you don't, i am telling you now.

2) There is always a possibility of downpes, but whether there is a PROBABILITY is another matter. It is possible to downpes even if you are a perfectly healthy human being, because you can go apply to downpes (see doctor to ask for downpes for no reason), but whether it is probable or not is another matter.

Not all injuries warrants a downpes, it depends on their policy. There are instances where an injury, if you have to go through a surgery, during the recovery period, you get temp downpes or just longer period of excuse. After you have recovered (as certified by your doctor), your temp downpes or excuse will be allowed to lapse.

As to whether your circumstances allows you to downpes or not, nobody here can conclusively say for sure, only the MO can (if people here say they can say for sure, they are lying to you, because they are not your MO).

3) They very fact that you are suggesting "possible for me to down my Pes to perhaps C or a unit with no physical training at least without getting any backlash from my unit? If not, what should I do? Many thanks in advance!" already sounded like you just want to chao keng, and your ur injury is secondary. If you are intention is not to chao keng, nature will takes it course. If you are supposed to downpes to a certain grade and be posted to a unit with no physical training, you will be without you even asking.

Tbh, let nature takes it course

Go for whatever surgery that u need then bring the memo or whatever doctor letter to the MO

The MO will endorse your MC if needed and downpes you if their medical bible says due to your conditions, u will need to downpes

But on my opinion arh, even if can downpes also temp downpes only

is temp down pes the more likely direction 'cause no one can predict what might happen a few yrs down the line during ICT

any up or down PES can only be done officially by the medical board, be it army or other uniform group

correct?

discuss with your specialist whats the injury like and consequences etc.. get ur specialist to write an official memo. pass this memo letter to the M.O when u see him. after surgery you will most likely be temp downgraded in the medical board then there will be follow up reviews by the m.o .
