I am unable to install Ubuntu onto my laptop running win 7. I have partition my hdd, 320gb, into 160GB each. I have try to install ubuntu using thumbdrive, DVD and WUBI. The above 3 methods give me the same problem and that is stuck in a black screen with only a blinking underscore at the top left corner of the screen. Please, any kind soul tell me what can i do to overcome it :)

My recommendation is not touch your main OS, install virtual box and then install Ubuntu as a guest OS if your main purpose is to work in a Linux environment. It's easier to manage and much more flexible

Which ISO image did you download ? Where did you download from ? When installing from the ISO, can you post a screenshot when the error shows ?

It will help in debugging your problem. Also which physical system are you using now ? Identify and list your system and CPU model.

I am using the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS ISO and i got it from The world's most popular free OS | Ubuntu. The entire screen is black and a blinking underscore at the top left handside of the screen.
My processor is Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T6400 @ 2GHZ and my ram is 4GB.
My OS is Win 7 32 bit
BTW thanks for helping :)

Are you using VirtualBox ? Try disable the 2D & 3D acceleration for your guest OS first. I hope you have downloaded the 32bits Ubuntu ISO instead of the 64bits one ? While it may be possible to run 64bits guest inside 32bits, not recommended though.

Also can you check if you have enabled H/W acceleration known as VT-X in your bios ? Will help in better performance.
