Hi all,

Posting on behalf of a friend...

He bought the new MBA 13" 2014 (Haswell Refresh) 3 weeks ago...

Within first week, the Wifi card could not be detected... He sent it in for warranty, but they said it is user fault... Called Apple and they also said that if the service staff say is user fault, then it is user fault...

Could it be his fault? He said he didn't drop the laptop, and I didn't notice any dents/scratches on its case...

can elaborate what else the staff said other than user's fault? i'm sure they would have given some kind of explanation...water seep in for eg.

Also, where was laptop purchased. there's a chance sometimes macs bought from retail stores have already been opened up and used.

tats y i normally prefer buying direct from Apple store, even refurb ones.

hmmm good suggestion... apple service staff said liquid damage...

he said day 1-2 already had this problem, (but didn't say where he bought the laptop from)... probably can claim lemon law against the seller? (he bought it "new", not second hand)

ok tat explains. afraid nothing much he can do other than claim against seller under lemon law (not much use also).

Apple is not known to dodge warranty so the water reason is likely valid. imo, your friend got screwed by the seller.

doubt a receipt makes any difference too.

Where was the unit bought from, is there proof of purchase? Also, try to ask the service centre to show pictures of the purported water damage.
