Hi. I'm helping a relative with his WeChat account.

My relative last used his WeChat account in 2019. However he realised his account is blocked when he tried to access it last month.

We managed to get one of his WeChat friend to unblock for him by sending a 6-digit number to his WeChat account. We managed to login but he is unable to send out message and I am unable to add him as a WeChat friend - the error given was "cannot add a compromised account".

We tried to set a new password but the app gave an error that we can only do so after 3 days. We tried after 3 days and the error given is the same "after 3 days".

I tried emailing WeChat help and the message replied was:

Dear user, sorry for the inconvenience. This account violates the 《WeChat Acceptable Use Policy》【 https://www.wechat.com/en/acceptable_use_policy.html 】,we will restrict the use of the account and will not be able to unblock the account for you. If you wish to continue using WeChat, please re-register and carefully read and comply with the relevant Service Agreement and the WeChat Acceptable Use Policy to avoid being blocked in the future due to other violations. If your WeChat Pay account still contains funds or other assets, WeChat will automatically open the assets entrance. You will still be able to log in to WeChat to withdraw funds from your Balance.

Gentle reminder: WeChat prohibits gifting, lending, transferring or otherwise permitting any other person to access or use your account. In addition, unauthorized use of third-party software, including but not limited to plug-ins, jailbreaking tools, virtual emulators, is prohibited. Please avoid frequently add friends or group chats in a short time, this may affect your account usage.
Please be sure to use the account in accordance with WeChat's policies. Thanks for your patience and continuous support.

The WeChat help support looks quite hopeless. They took a long time reply and their instruction is unclear - what do they meant by re-register?

Does anyone encounter such an issue? How did you manage to overcome the problem?

this kind of stuff normally is because account kena hacked and used for illegal purpose.
only way is because and set strong security password and authenication.

you can tried argue with them that the account could be hacked and see if they can do anything for your friend.

see can provide them with whatever details to prove that your friend not the one operating that account.

Re-register means asking to reapply for new account :-

Your relative acct must have used for something very "bad".

I had an old weixin act setup in 2007 since 2019 never use it because it ask to do real name authentication but I can't do as phone already expired .

I came over this month and just enter the new phone number and followed the instruction for real name authentication .

Now everything is normal , I was even able to setup Wechat Pay full function like the local , red packet , transfer money etc etc by just linking local china bank acct and hp number ( no need to linked foreign credit card ).

Update: My relative used his second mobile number to register for a new wechat account. His previous wechat was permanently blocked.
