Problem with MD-PORT DG2 (Windows 8)

Hi,

Was happily using my MD-PORT DG2 (USB to optical TOSLink) converter on my laptop (Dell Latitude E5430), then the converter suddenly decided to stop working.
I checked the properties under Device Manager, and found this error message:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

{Operation Failed}
The requested operation was unsuccessful.

Swapped out the cable and the device and still had the same problem.
Was wondering if anyone could suggest a solution?
