Since a few days back, whenever I restart or shut down my PC, at the shutting down screen, I will get the installing update message prompt; mine is installing update 1 of 1.

I've always left it to install finished before turning off my PC. However, this update will keep installing everytime I shutdown/reboot my pc.

Please advise:(

Hi,

Can you try clearing the Windows Update files? You can do this by
1. Open a Command Prompt window with Administrative Rights
2. Type in: "net stop wuauserv" and execute
3. Navigate to C:\Windows\
4. Rename the SoftwareDistribution folder to SoftwareDistribution.old
5. Execute "net start wuauserv" in Command Prompt and restart your computer

If all else fails, try to do a System Restore to an earlier date before the problems occurred.

weird...I'm already logged in to my account which is an administrator account and when I try to execute the command in step 2, I got this error

System error 5 has occurred.

Access is denied.

Glad it worked. Basically, the SoftwareDistribution folder is where all the Windows Update cache and temp files are stored. They can be deleted in the event something goes wrong with an update.

Always rename the folder first, delete once you're sure nothing goes wrong.

If you keep experiencing this issue maybe it's time to reformat :/
