Hi forum,

Recently my desktop has been giving me problems i.e. blue screen, hang during start up, screen freezes when playing game or watching videos, failure to start up computer(keyboard works when i tried pressing num lock but there is no display on my monitor).

I read a few threads here and did some tests as suggested such as using HDTune to scan my disks for any bad sectors but they are all good. Not sure if it's my GFX card or the PSU that is failing me. My components are listed as below, been with me since 2009 except for the PSU which is around 2007.

Processor

Phenom II x3 710 w CoolerMaster TX3
Mainboard
Biostar TA785GE 128m T-Series
Graphics Card
Powercolor HD4870 512MB DDR5 Stalker Edition
Memory
2 X 2GB Kingston Hyperx
Storage
Seagate 7200.12 500GB
Optical Storage
HL-DT-ST DVDRAM
PSU
Andyson 500W
Audio
Creative X-Fi Xtrememusic
OS
Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Thanks!

take out both ram then plug in one only. if it works then take out the same ram plug into the other slot. if it doesn't work, then it means is mobo de dimm slot spoil. if both slots working for that ram, try on the other ram

Try these in order of 1 to 3:
1. memtest86 to check for bad ram
2. HDTune for bad sectors
3. Biostar motherboard
