Updated my windows 7 on a dell laptop via the auto update and after com restart, im unable to enter the os. Have called dell and said they would send a technician to investigate. From what i understood from the operator, he said i needed a win7 key to facilitate the repairs. However, i dun seem to remember having any windows 7 cd when i purchased the laptop. Do i need to purchase a separate cd now?

I had the same problem. What I did was not to allow automatic updates but to manually update it myself. Why did you buy a Dell? I bought a Dell before and that was my only Dell in the last 20 years.

Well, my dell desktop still serves me well after 6 years other than having outdated technology. Guess it cant be said for the laptop..
Anw, i think i pinpointed my error to be hdd failure. nothing to do with win7 or the authenticity of it.
