Hi guys, just wondering if anyone has any info or recommendations on any courses available in Sg for learning app development.. First and foremost, i am not a computer science student, i am just a diploma grad in tourism, has basic knowledge of IT, great interest in app development and IT stuff..

I found alot of 3-5 days workshops, but i dun think they are good enough, or rather enough for my basic understanding of programming..

TIA!

i don't think i qualify, i only have a diploma cert from MDIS.. :o

I would like you to go find out more about NUS and NTU offerings first. If really you can't get in, then consider other avenues.

Software development is not whether it is mobile or desktop or server. The knowledge required to do well with any software development is more than just what you are after. You should try getting into course that teaches general computing with foundation like database, networking, development methodologies and other knowledges too. That will make you a much better software developer.

Mobile development is just one little portion of the whole development realm.

Thanks! I will definitely go check up on their entry requirements.. i agree with you on getting my foundations and basics strong as well, and mobile app is just a part if programming, which is why i am noy interested in those 3-5 days workshops...

The ugly truth is... all these short few-day workshops that attempt to transform you into an app developer are all not gonna work. If you cram a lot of content into a short course, you lose detail and deep learning. If you focus on workshops that teach one thing deeply, you lose breadth and risk learning dogmatic coding styles.

I believe there are no real shortcuts... go out there and learn as much as you can. If you truly have the passion to do it, research and read up everyday. Reading some good books help. Be patient, learn as much as you can, be open-minded, and very critical of new knowledge.

In other words, subscribing to workshops or even full-length courses won't really make you a good developer. The only important thing is the attitude and aptitude of the learner. :)
