I was sold a prushield hospital plan when I was in poly and I was totally cheated.
I explicitly asked the FA if I would need to pay for anything when I am hospitalised then she said no. (Note: there is no rider sold, only the medisave paid plan) I say zero dollars? She say yes.
She misled me to think I only need to pay the same low fees I am paying in 20s throughout my life. I thought it can't be so good so I thought how can the price be locked in and I ask her as well is it locked in she say yes.

Long story short I have a private hospital plan if I am not wrong.

It comes to me as a shock when I finally learn there is deductible and co insurance and my plan is useless because I cannot afford the cash payments at All. I was a student. Thank God I am not hospitalised.

I now am considering getting a cash rider as I am starting work. I don't know if I really need a private hospital plan or should I downgrade to A ward. What's the difference between Private and public hospital? Is public hospital inferior in skills?

Because cash riders for private hospital is too ex.

I am also thinking of getting the lite rider.

It says I need to pay 1750 per hospitalised year, no need co insurance.

And I don't need cash benefits and all. I will plan savings for that.

I saw the lite = pays 1750 for a year if I am hospitalised for the year and capped there.

Vs the full pays nothing. The full rider is like 50k more ex if I live till 85 I think. And it seems the lite is a better choice.

Please don't ask me for sales. I am considering have no yet set aside the sum for now.

There is absolutely no reason for an agent to cheat you where Medishield Integrated plans are concerned.

Furthermore, all the brochures I've seen on IP plans are crystal clear there is coinsurance/copay unless you buy the riders.

In fact, the agent got more reason to sell you the additional riders to cover coinsurance as he will get commission from them

Finally, you claim you got no money yet get private hospital plan? Myself, I know I have no money so I only get A class plan, but will stay in B class ward and get $100/day cash benefit for staying in lower class ward...

I am covered till Ward A without any rider and premiums payable by medisave. Ard 100 plus iirc. No coughing out of cash.

Go determine whether u need to stay in pte or public hosp. There are pros and cons

Moh website is a good place to start

Hosp plans premiums can be increased from time to time.

There is no guaranteed lock in premiums

I think her lock in meaning she pay the same premiums at 20 yrs and 50 yrs old.

only for hospital plans, there is no lock-in, the fees change accordingly to your age range. because as you grow older there is a much higher chance of you being admitted to hospital. compared to getting CI/death, being admitted to hospitals for all kinds of things are quite common (simple fractures, etc)

That's why. But I think she was a new person that time. When I sign the papers I have no idea on coinsurance and deductibles.

Anyway, because I have never hospitalised, is private hospital really a lot better than public a ward? I don't care for a very high class ward, I more concern on the treatment qualities.

Anything thing I need to take note, eg costs of certain treatments/illness/hospital charges that insurance cannot cover?

What about CI? How come there is hospital plans and CI plans? Do I need to get one?

Currently I have no dependents, my parents don't require me to pay for them yet. So I thought of getting term in future but I am more concern on cost of illnesses and all.

Also for this "50% of PRUshield’s Deductible
amount subject to a maximum of
$1,750 per Policy Year"

Does it means I pay a maximum of 1750 for the whole year if I was hospitalised that year?

You see, what happen was I was in the canteen at my school,
I have no idea of medishield plan actually. She just mention need to deduct medisave no need pay cash, no mention on cash riders. As someone without knowledge, on the spot I don't know what should I need to know as well. I just check with her certain doubts I had.

As for the private one, it is she who suggested and advice because she say since it is very cheap. I don't even have any idea how does Private hospital ward looks like.

So as I learn more on this, I am thinking if I should just downgrade, isn't A ward like very luxurious already?

Oh, and one more question, If I am buying a 'A' ward rider, I must hold 'A' ward plan?

Firstly, it's easy to downgrade, not easy to upgrade.

I hate insurance people but to be fair, there are better private practice doctors than public hospitals.

Premiums for private hospitals are very expensive and it differs among insurance companies with mild differences in coverage.

The most important point about MediShield is the difficulty in switching once you have a medical condition. Insurance companies know this and will exploit this pitfall.

What the agent said is not untrue, just that its not as complete as what we would like it to be. One should perform his/her due diligence when assessing the agent's recommendations.

At younger age, the premium difference between private vs non-private shield plan is really not a lot. Private tends to be faster. Govt-subsidized patients may have delay after delay. -I have seen cases where the operation are re-scheduled several times. Sickness like cancer can spread very fast and in a matter of 3-4 weeks, it can grow one Stage to another, or spread from one body part to another.
