Same thing. I took 518 from Pasir Ris to Bayfront thinking it was express bus. After close to 45min with so many traffic lights and stops still haven't got past Bedok.

Should have taken MRT. By the time I reached can go to Jurong already by other means.

This is exactly why if I'm going to use the roads to travel it's either drive ride or cab.

Bus route just doesn't make sense.

And to think that this express bus system was the competing proposal against the MRT system in the early 80s.

There was a series of televised debates between land transport sexperts from Harvard and Holland about this. A very young and handsome SBS manager by the name of Mah Bow Tan shot down the express bus proposal straight off. You can find the videos on this debate on YouTube.
