Qns about water cooling

For a custom loop sometimes you will want to route the tubing in a particular way, etc. At the initial stages leaks are common especially if you are trying to avoid 90 degree fittings to maximise flow rate. Even for older setups you always hear something happening to the loop resulting in massive failure.

Whether it's initial stage or later stage, like I said leaks don't occur if you do it correctly. Also, 90 degree bend doesn't slow down the flow. Note that you are using a pump to push the liquid ;)

The moment you use angled fittings, there will always be pressure drop/loss. But since the pump rpm is high and ID is quite small, the difference is negligible.

Errr are you serious?

According to EK, 2 angled fittings will drop the flow rate by 10%. This is for 100% D5 pump speed.

If you are a hardcore watercooling guy you should be aware of things like this.

It is actually not negligible. People pay more for high pressure pumps to get high flow rates for more efficient cooling.

You add just a few angled fittings you lose all the benefit of the expensive pump.

What he mean 90 degree bend is the tube that bend 90 degree. It wont slow the flow. Only fitting at 90 will slow the flow. :)

minimal cleaning can be achieved on air cooling too .... get those super big dual 140mm tower heatsink
you get more cooling headroom that you gradually lose as you didn't clean it on the 3rd 4th 5th year

only need to wash the front dust filter

You can add them at returning to the tank, after the tank and the pump inlet. Dont add 90 at the pump outlet, before or after the block and the rad.

I was referring to 90 degree fittings, as I specifically mentioned.

I had that 180 degree bend issue that time when I set up my loop many years ago. But that time I didn't have access to the hard tubes these days that can bend nicely like that without kinking.

As to usage of fittings actually this depends on what you want.

If you want super hot looking loop then you have to sacrifice the flow rate with the angled fittings.

I had to join two very close blocks and opted against 90 degree fittings, cause some problems down the line.

However if you want to watercool because of the super high OC, in that case you will want minimal angled fittings to maximise the cooling, then you can OC your gfx and CPU to insane rates.

I intend to over clock them.
My config is pump to dual gpu to rad to cpu to rad to reservoir.
Using 240 ek pe rad, 360 ek pe rad & ek-res x4 850ml. Wanted to get another 140 pe rad, maybe for future add into the case. Fans are mostly ek, only 2 from corsair hd rgb fan.
My casing is inwin 509.

This is where I think many are not aware that using angle fittings may cause the drop in flow rate but with today standards of d5 pump and if you use high end fittings, the difference is very negligible.

Todays d5 pump say EK d5 is moving 1500L/h worth of water. That's already 25L in a min. That is capable to push a lot of water through almost any kind of single loop setup. Not unless you have 3 or more series of very resistive radiators.

For fittings, many also do not realise it is highly dependent on how the manufacturer creates their fittings inside. There are some brands that creates angle fittings that are looks like a single tube pass thru inside. Some create it with a angular bend.

But in all, the amount of angle fittings used should not impact the flow rate that much nowadays. Especially when you have a single d5 pump that is able to move that much water in a min.

FYI, my rig uses nothing but angle fittings because it is made entirely out of glass tubes.

If going by the theory that two* angle fittings reduces the flow rate by 10%, I would have a non functioning rig or a overheating rig.

But I'm a happy user with an overclocked gpu and cpu temps such as 43degC and 56degC on gaming load.

glass tube not really popular among water cooling user.
most popular choice is acrylic or petg tube.
the simple and easy is soft tubing.

for beginner, they do have kits for them to build.

i hope to finish building my half finish pc.
my wife not really happy, been waiting too long and want to use it for work at home.

If on budget and wanna try out WC, can always get the EK cpu/gpu kit. Comes with cpu block, gpu block, 240 or 360 rad (depending on package purchased), small res/pump combo, some fittings and some soft tubing.

May cost close to a gpu price but at least wun reach $2k or so.

thanks for all the inputs guys.
i read through every single thread and realise i spark a small debate here =D

anyway i m just a casual gamer who is lazy to maintain and has limited cash who rather spend good $ into cpu/gpu if i can..

since its not dust/maintenance free. i think the extra effort and cash doesnt seem worth it to me at the moment so i ll stick with what i have.

with six 90degrees angle fitting and 2 big radiators and one laing d5 pump the water still flow like a waterfall as shown below
