Hi guys, I have a tricky issue. please advise.

one of the sat class clashes with ICT and although its a part time course, it's a full day (9 to 5) class on Saturdays...and if I miss 1 class = immediate fail because of attendance requirements

I saw some guys ask for time-off from OC after entering camps but that is a bit risky right? what if he don't give..then siao liao. :/

or should I just apply for deferment straight away?

school is NUS (if it matters)

whether you can defer and if you want to defer is 2 separate thing.

Do you want or defer?

your NS unit often has activities scheduled on Saturdays ar? are those shifts or exercises/ranges or normal training?

if shifts, perhaps you can asked to be arranged to not do that Sat so you can attend class.

if the latter, then it would depend on the nature of training and how understanding your commanders are. speak to them first, see if they know what is on the training program and how they can help you.

if training program no Sat activity, then no need to defer. just attend class normally.

If can then I don't want to defer..want to faster do finish..

so maybe I should contact the commanders personally and if he at least verbally says its okay then I don't proceed with the deferment.

thanks for the replies guys, it keeps my sanity in place. I'm a worrisome person..keep worry this and that :)

it's good to plan ahead. always keep in touch with your PC. if he knows the training program beforehand, he can advise you whether that Sat is a free day.

also, deferment requests reach the unit first, not your OC/PC but if your PC is aware of such a need he can put in some words to help you in your case.

this is the correct answer:

call up your unit and ask if that particular day any activities

if there is... ask them to advise what to do

if they are not sure if you can be excused, of if it is not possible eg outfield over the weekend etc, then apply for deferment with necessary proof from NUS

dont let it affect your education because of this....

It really depend on your unit.

Rumor claim that public schools like NUS sure get determent is a fake news. Public schools have common school holidays that allow uniform groups to have a better planning for call NSmen for ICTs during school holidays. Having lesson during ICT is never a value reason for deferment. The guidelines stated only for Exam!

However we know that there are NSmen who get rejected for deferment even the reason is Exam with supporting documents. As NSF/NSmen, we are dogs who has no right due to NS liabilities (and the only way is to study overseas in order not to be affected for your studies).

This applied to family commitment such as EDD for pregnant wife. Even Guidelines allow it, unit can disapproved your deferment. As NSF/NSmen, we are dogs who has no right due to NS liabilities (and the only way is to work overseas in order not to be affected for your family commitment). I almost kena before because NSSC recommend not to approved my deferment but my unit approved it.

The reason NSSC give is my unit's operating hours is office hours which is same like civilian job. However what NSSC do not know is once I report to my unit, I will report to my sub-unit (subordinate unit) and then attached to a unit not within my chain of command. The attached unit operated by shifts working hours. Some more for civilian job, I can take leave and if not approved, I can just AWOL and quit cause my family (pregnant wife and incoming new born baby) is more important then work. But for NS, we may not even get a Time Off or AWOL without MP to arrest me and put me in DB.

NSSC big mouth, don't know anything, don't anyhow recommend! I do not even know why stupid SAF want to get NSSC to be involved (unless it is for appeal for unsuccessful deferment application) since it is between NSmen and unit?

uniform groups sounds more like the term ppl usually use to describe NCC NPCC, etc. first time hear ppl use it to describe SAF/SPF/SCDF
