I'm curious on something after reading posts from various threads. Seems like most of the fellow bros have their cash vested in investment portfolios etc...

Then what about those with small businesses? Like maybe a contractor? Does it makes sense that he/she don't have much spare cash/portfolio as the money are all "invested" into the company?

Yeah, this makes sense. If you have a business, most of your free cash will probably be tied up in the business. Think of that as your stock portfolio - a heavily concentrated, illiquid stock portfolio, but a portfolio nevertheless. (And that illiquidity and concentration risk is the price you pay for the big potential upside on starting your own business.)
