I had this problem while installing my new memory module.

Got myself a new 8GB memory module and I want to check if it's a DOA
- took out old 2gb module from it's slot
- insert new 8gb module into the same slot
- Power up my PC, HDD, MB, fans on video card all running but the screen is still black.
- Power off PC and remove the 8GB and reinserted the 2GB, to the same slot still black screen.
- I thought video card is dead but I don't have any spare card to confirm.
- After tinkering with all possible causes I decided to use another memory slot with the old 2gb module.
- The display came back on after powering up and everything is running normally after changing to new memory slot.
- Power down again and I insert the old 2gb module back to original slot and the 8gb into another slot.
- Power up and everything is running normally again and system recognise all the memory.

Is the old 2gb RAM dying or is it the MB?

can try cleaning the ram pins(golden part) with alcohol(non-drinking) as well as the pins slots on mobo(carefully w/ power off) and wait awhile for it to dry.

Can also use compressed air to blow off dust in the mobo ram slots
