Hi

I have 4GB of RAM that I took from a MBP Mid 2012.

I want to put this into a MBP 2009 that only has 2Gb of ram ie just switch the sticks

Will this work?

Thx

Are the same DDR memory? 2009 might be DDR-2, 2012 might be DDR-3.

When I search online i see that the 2009 model uses 2x 1gb of 1066mhz DDR3 SDRam

The 2012 model had 2x 2gb of 1600 mhz DDR3L SDram (PC3-12800)

Although it fits into the slot, it doesn't start up properly so I suspect my answer is No they cannot just be switched like that.

Is it because the Ram specs are completely different?

DDR3L and DDR3 operates on different voltages, so cannot be mixed used,

one and be used for the other but not the other way round. Sorry I can't remember the details, the other pros can chip in on this topic.
