Even cheap PCs nowadays are monstrously fast.. Now i sees it as first world problem. :s13:

ya... based on the comments it looks like i can cut back on the gfx and mobo and still be quite comfortable for 1080p gaming, which is good.

actually after i build these 2 i will have 2 old but working computers. talk about first world problems. maybe i will use one for the living to watch youku shows on TV. :D

2 rigs bro. we use our computers at the same time.

but actually if thats the case i rather you get the one i recommend for your wife and another one which is I7 and at 16gb ram for yourself with a lower gpu, cause you are using mostly for video editing maybe can benefit more from I7.

How often and how much video processing do you do? An i5 is plenty powerful but if u want the extra power, can consider i7

maybe she doesn't, but that's not the point. hahaha...
the point is wifey happy = me happy. not a good idea to build a weaker pc for her while i build a monster rig for myself.

On another hand, getting big and powerful don't necessary = wifey happy these days. Since small is (still) the IN thing now, i strongly believe your wife could be even happier if the PC is tiny, runs quietly/silently, light on power usage and still runs fast enough for her.

my wife's own words the last time i built the PC for her. "I want it cool (i.e. shouldn't heat up too much) and powerful."
haha.. forgot actually i bought her the 7900GT gfx card, which was just a step away from the 7900 GTX (king of the hill). Shes not the usual i want my pc cute and cuddly kind of girl. :D

I think you can consider a mini itx build with a gtx 750ti.
Tiny, low power consumption and powerful.

video processing - largely converting flvs to mkvs, etc. (youku!!) but then on and off, when i do use it could be heavy, but no rush also. haiz.
