i wonder why people always want to buy a cheap "all in one" that will last "many years".

Parts aren't built to last these days and the more component parts you try to string together, the higher the odds of hardware failure.

Also as someone mentioned above. If your DIY dies, you'll likely have to bring it back down to SLS or wherever you bought it from for a diagnosis (probably costs you a service fee).

In your case bro, "branded" is the best. Strictly speaking, I would normally tell you to get a Dell. I hear their after sales service is good.

There is no such thing as a "durable" PC i think. Some get lucky and their parts last for years and years. Some get unlucky and parts die after months sometimes (covered by warranty).

Also, the good thing about today's PCs are that it has sort of slowed in terms of speed of development. Getting an i5 would be good as a processor for normal excel/powerpoint/word document editing. You can even do basic video processing. If you get the skylake processors, i hear their integrated GPU is quite good (good enough to play games at low settings and out perform the lowest grade discrete GPUs).

RAM and HDD well, the more the merrier as they say

My 1st choice will be dell too, I read quite a lot of good comment on them. I'll go down to sls today and see what I can get then. Hoping to get 1 asap! Thx for the recommendation and advise. 😄😄

Why not wait 2 weeks for the IT Fair? The prices aren't always cheaper but you can get more "freebies" out of them. I mean yea whats a mouse and a thumb drive/backpack. But its free anyways why not

Becos I really know nothing about pc. That's y I need to seek help and recommendation from the experts here for information. Especially need reliable shop that won't anyhow charge and give me those lousy reuse hardwares. Btw, am a lady😄😄

can try talking to the manager and refund the freebies, basically don't take the free mouse or computer cleaning kit nonsense and ask them to give u better discount

Reliable shops at SLS at generally Fuwell and PC Themes.

When the IT Fair Brochures are up, ask here again with your budget and general usage to get recommendations.

Also is it possible to get a touch screen as well?
Once a week I might on my com for 24 -48 hours without closing it..

Hi TS.

Touch screen feels really cumbersome, especially on a large screen. Reason being that reaching over your desk to poke your screen can be quite tiring after a long while. If you really need a touchscreen for whatever reason (e.g. More user friendly for a family member who's new to computers and just want to check 4D), do go ahead. Else, will be better to just stick to mouse and keyboard as input.

Considering your budget, and if die die want touch screen, I'd rather you get a Surface Pro 3/4 and have it connected to a large monitor by Surface Dock. At least you'll get a touch screen device that you can comfortably use when undocked and you can just poke the screen with minimal effort, and still get all the additional USB ports for mouse and keyboard.

If you decide touch screen isn't for you, then go for a 27 inch display and a SFF (small form factor) DIY build. If SFF is still too big, then go for something like Zotac's ZBox or Gigabyte Brix (small profile rig about same size as Mac Mini) .
