By small I guess you mean about 11.6 inches? Or 13.3 inches? I would recommend the 11.6 inches with touch screen from either Acer or Asus. The Acer one is the V5-122P. $699. I think you buy so many, can get a good discount. Asus also has something similar, but much dearer at $799 or $899, I can't really remember. Also touch screen. Probably can negotiate something. The laptops are about 1.3kg or less...

I won't tell you what brand because my brand is usually cheaper faster better (only applicable to machines not humans).
What your engineer needs and why:
-Gigabit Ethernet Port
Copy data...FAST
-WiFi
Connect to WiFi..enough said
-Intel based Processor
Install Applications...Intel Architecture has most written apps.
