Recommendation for a storage/media player

What will be a good media for downloading video and playback on TV?. At the moment I am using Thumbdrive to download movies and to plug it into a media player to watch movies on tv. Unfortunately the playback quality is poor. Any suggestion for a good 2 in 1 (storage cum media player)?. Anyone tried out the MG800HD media player?. Read some good review about it but it was dated way back 2009. Desperate for some advise.
