Recommendation for PC Spec for a game.

My desktop PC is 8 years old and recently my graphic is damaged and planned for a new PC. My budget is around $1000. I also interested in a game called "Cities Skyline" which is CPU and RAM intensive.

Thinking of ryzen 1600 vs 1600x for the game based on my budget. Understood "x" is for overclocking but no knowledge of it. Should i choose Ryzen 1600 as is $40 cheaper?

With a motherboard Asus B350-Plus seems nice ,but some says MSI B350 Tomahawk is better

Could i get a 16GB RAM (DDR4) and a SSD for my PC based on my budget?

Graphic card, hmm, heard MSI is more reliable, GTX 1050 2GB Aero Itx vs GTX 1050 Ti 4GB l.p twin fan with $40 difference too.

I believe i could reuse the power supply or PC casing if possible to save cost. Does motherboard installation universal to most of PC casing, or i need to choose a specific PC casing?

The x means it can automatically clock itself higher, you don't need to do anything.

Your PSU might be missing the new connectors for GPUs, motherboards, etc. 8 years old, time to switch.

Casing, you need to worry about airflow

GPU maybe go 1060 instead

I have a Ryzen 7 1700X at 3.9 GHz and it can't run Cities Skyline smoothly with mods and above 100K pops. Dipping below 30fps even on a 1080Ti. The game is a CPU smashing monster and a memory hog!

For CPU, go with a Ryzen 5 1600.

The difference between 1600 and 1600X is, 1600 - 3.2 GHz base vs 1600x - 3.6 GHz base. 1600 includes a stock Wraith Spire cooler while 1600X does not. So if you get 1600X, it'll be more than $40 due to needing a CPU cooler, extra $60, thus it will be about $100 difference.

Both CPU can overclock if you wish to. Just get 1600 and overclock yourself to 3.7GHz on a stock cooler.

Cities Skyline doesn't require much GPU power but more GPU memory will help so 1050 Ti 4GB...

Most important would be RAM. Once you have a lot of mods/assets and a big population, even 16GB isn't enough sometimes. Minimum will be 16GB.

For $1000, it's going to be tight...

for an 8-year-old system, I suggest you to rebuild everything, including PSU, Case, Storage and $1k budget might not be enough.

Your SSD is how much space? You can see if a 120GB SSD for OS & Cities Skyline along with a 1TB HDD for other stuff can save you some money. But 120GB SSD fill up quite fast.

Not too sure about reliability of CM PSU, maybe can go with Superflower or EVGA

If you want to save can go with Tecware cases such as Tecware F3

Also, you don't have to get MSI GPU, just get the cheapest one you can find

Lastly, 2400MHz and CL17 RAM might not give you the best performance on Ryzen compared to faster RAM, if you can find higher MHz/lower CL at slightly higher price, might be worth spending more.

600-650W is more than enough.

If you really want to cut cost, One way to try is to get some used parts. I have had luck getting used parts for my pc,from ram to gpu. Some of these can save you a bit. That would help you fit your budget better.

Not all parts should be bought used though. I rather not get a CPU, PSU used. but GPU usually seem okay and they usually have 3 years of warranty so you likely can get a warranty set used quite easily.

For a 1050Ti, 450W is enough, if you want to leave room for upgrades, feel free to get 550W or 650W. Probably no need for more than that.
