hi experts of hwz,

Looking to refresh my gig since 2020 (but upgraded ram and ssd over time).

Have a quote from a builder with these specs:

Processor :AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
MB:MSI B850M Mortar Wifi 7
Graphic Card :Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070Ti (Zotac)
Ram:Klevv Cras V RGB 2X32GB 6000Mhz cl30
PSU:MSI A850GL 850W 80+ Gold ATX 3.1 PCIE 5
Casing:Jonsbo D300 Casing
Cooler :Thermalright peerless 120 SE Digital ARGB
Thermalright C12C ARGB Fan Pack
Dimmension:236.4mm (W) * 420.9mm (H) * 460.2mm (D)
OS: Win 11pro Activated

For the SSD I will use back my samsung 980 pro and a old HDD.

Total price at $2690

Questions i would like to check with experts here:

1. For the RAM i understand from my friend that it's best for the RAM to be on the memory support list on the mobo site (e.g. for MSI B850M Mortar will be here https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MAG-B650M-MORTAR-WIFI/support#mem), so that the RAM can run at the advertised speed instead of just the base. Is this thinking correct?

2. Can I just plug in my current SSD with windows 11 already there, then switch the drivers with the new hardware, without reformatting the entire SSD?

3. Are the specs recommended? Which components will you change out? - GPU i looking to use Nvidia only.

Thank you very much in advance.

1. yes, if you want to be on the safe side but unlisted ram can work as well. For exp, my 6000cl30 kit from lexar works with b650 eagle on expo etc
2. yeah you can, just use DDU and uninstall all existing drivers, it should work fine.
3. Win 11 pro is free to activate (im abit lazy so heres an estimated pricing)
7800x3d - $450 Thetechyard
b850m mortar wifi - $200-300 (random price i estimated, if more than 300 then you are overpaying)
5070ti zotac - $1000-1100 lazada/shopee or carousell
64gb ram - $300 minimum
850W PSU A tier - $130
Taobao Stuff
PA120 SE - $46
Jonsbo D300 - $91
C12C ARGB (5 Pack) - $27.5
Total: 2245-2445 depending on the price of the motherboard, GPU, RAM

Get a 32gb kit if you dont have a need for 64gb of ram, since ddr5 is low in supply due to AI demand, will save $100 or more.

Thanks for the detailed answer.

Yeah I realized the RAM prices are quite high. Maybe I will just take the 32GB first. however I guess later on will need to buy 2x 32 again at least.

Ryzen might not work well with 4 sticks. If you need the memory, suggest you get 2 X 64GB or 2 X 48GB now instead.

Ya 64gb kits are very expensive now, but if you need it for work or something, then just get. AI demand will remain high for the near future (1-2 years), so it's better than buying 2 sets of ram
