Drove in Kyushu last December no need for snow tires (legally not required). The car rental company got list of places where it’s mandatory.

There was freak snow on 1 day but it melted into rain pretty fast.

I believe snow tire charges for all the companies are per day of rental, and counted from pickup to return.
Can share which car rental? how many days and pick up/drop off you selected?

Last year I used times rental and only rented for moving between cities. 6 days. Pickup Higashi-hie and returned Tenjin (close to my hotel)

Since then they have reopened the International airport branch so you can do rental pickup/return and still have time to catch the SQ flight. So you can do the reverse as well.

If I may hijack this thread for some queries. Booked ticket to Fukuoka this CNY (early Feb) for a 8 days visit. First time there with just me and my wife.
1. How cold will it get in Feb?
2. Will take public transport in Fukuoka. (probably 2-3 nights). Planned to rent car and travel out for the next 5 days. Any recommended cities for that matter and period?
3. Is driving during Feb safe? Was told we might need to chain our tyres??

Not been there yet but if u r driving then itoshima seems nice

it’s one of the location that I’m not sure if I’m going as places are far apart and public transport is not frequent

You talking about me? Well first of all like to thank you for the great advices earlier. But I guess to each its own. For very highly specific questions on high traffic subforum, new threads are definitely better

problem is with low traffic threads and less travelled locations. If the locations are similar and only few replies, then having them merged is better as it is easier to go back to one thread.

My two cents. We dun have to agree on it. But thanks again to many with their great recommendations which I’m also researching on as it goes as I still have a couple of months to go.

i quote califonia so obviously my response refers to him unless u r califonia as well.

imo every itinerary deserve a new thread. it's not only for TS but also for others who may be interested similar itinerary.

there no need worry about low traffic threads or less travelled locations. better to organize per itinerary so it's easier search for later reference. of coz i don't own HWZ or dictate how this forum should i run. but still i like to suggest hopefully to make forum better.

besides if TS was asking for his trip planning & someone came & hijack with non relevant questions, how u think he will feel?

take a look how well organized is Taiwan backpackers forum.

sure we dun have to agree.

there used to be more experienced travelers sharing but seems have disappeared. maybe they have moved to better travel forums.
