I am super frustrated with my Singtel Pace modem/router that keeps restarting and losing connection, so can recommend a compatible router off e shelf to replace ? Still Asus is the best?

Newer models from Asus, Linksys, Dlink and TPLink all should work (with VLan support).

You can choose one depending on your budget.

You should read the comments of the different models here and see what are the issues faced with each model. And if you can accept the model that you wish to purchase.

it's the 5520 i think.. e black one.. we called 2 weeks ago, but before e technician came down, the problem resolved itself.. now it is back again

it's difficult to pinpont e problem, as sometimes it will be working fine for the whole day, n will cause problems at night or next morning where it will reset itself, the internet connection is lost or the power LED keeps blinking to indicate that it is doing a internal check

Hi Gr3yham3,

The Pace 5520 is a quite an old model and we assume that you are currently out of contract?

Router warranty, which allows you to swop out a faulty one, is only applicable for customers on contract.

We recommend that you reach out to the Technical HelpDesk for further assistance.

Thanks.

Maybe you can drop Singtel a pm on hwz and see if he/she can help you to expedite a little?

The pace router is prehistoric already.

Nevertheless, if you are looking for a good wireless access router, perhaps you can look at asus ac5300, linksys ea9500, tplink c3200 and many other models out there.

The models listed above are commonly found on hwz and there are other models which are compatible with singtel broadband but just slightly lower end.

Since you just re-contracted, get the new unit from SingTel first and use it.

If you still feel that you need a better unit, then consider the AC models.

But I don't think need to get the highest end model.

AC1900/2400/2600 models would be good enough.

Depends on what is the model you buy and what is the firmware that comes with that unit.

If you have read, you will know that the latest original manufacturer firmware for the various latest Asus AC models got issue. If you bought an Asus AC model and got one with the latest firmware, try to downgrade it immediately. If cannot use the normal way to downgrade, need to use the rescue tool to downgrade. Again read around some of the threads here and you will find the way to use the rescue tool. And also, what is the firmware version that is having issue.

For Dlink and TPLink, I'm not sure but seems like no one is complaining about latest firmware issue.

For Linksys, the EA7500/8500 seems OK with latest firmware. Only issue I have with the EA8500 is port forwarding as one certain port seems to have issue when used. As long as don't use that port is OK. Have not tried the MioTV yet as I have not on that Mio TV box for a long time. Not sure if the same port forwarding issue also affect the EA7500 but I suspect is also affecting.

If you get the unit from SingTel, the latest firmware should be automatically pushed to your unit and update automatically.

Cstanhwz has given u a comprehensive advice.. heed it or his effort goes to waste.. hahas.

Just a word of advice, asus and linksys will automatically fetch the latest firmware and it will prompt you to install. Other brands might need manual download..

Generally, I will advice you to download the latest firmware..

For Singtel routers, the latest firmware is always ousted to your unit automatically. If it doesn't, hit the reset button and it shall automatically fetch the firmware. If it's still doesn't, call 1688 and they can do it for h over the phone..

hence i am a bit confused.. some say download latest firmware, some say roll back to older versions.. how to know which versions to use for singtel tv compatibility? i dun think i will go too high end like ac5300 or ac88 .. one step below those will be e ac3200 or a87? are they good for singtel fibre n tv?

Also, thinking of getting an access point to have better coverage in the other parts of the hse further from the router too.. any recommedations?

All firmwares are compatible with singtel tv. Some asus firmwares are a little buggy in terms of wifi performance, but it's not to tye point it's unusable. The latest 3941 for some asus models have fixed some security issues and updated certain features.

My advice is to update to latest firmware and if encountered issues, then you downgrade. There is no perfect firmware in the world you see...

You cannot connect port 4 to a switch then the switch to computers. Port 4 is solely for singtel tv, it doesn't support LAN pc.
