5 year old rig gotten from Fortran, recently instant off and trouble starting up, which I suspect is power or heating problem.
Anyway was looking to upgrade mobo and get new PSU since out of warranty but since fortran only do full rigs now, I need some help with DIY.

Hoping to reuse:
Casing CM HAF 912
Zotac GTX 760
2 X G Skill DDR3 1600 value ram 8GB
WD 3.5 1TB

Was using i5-2500 & MSI P67A-C45
Asus AMA Axe 500W

Usage for design (photoshop & revit) and moderate gaming (warframe)
Appreciate any recommendations for mobo & chip, SSD and PSU.
Thanks!

EDIT:
Swapped PSU for SF Leadex Silver 550W but it only runs for a while then switches off again
Got high pitched sound (coil whine?) from the PSU even when not running but don't think is the problem.

I would suggest you try re-seating the CPU heat-sink and apply some MX-4.

As yusoffb01 has advised, you can change the PSU first and see if this resolves the problem. Superflower is a good and cheaper choice.

Found 2 Superflower 550W on Lazada, is it worth getting the Leadex Gold $139 over the silver one $92?
I usually run the com 8-15hrs a day.

Silver will do. Think how long you ought to use Leadex Gold to recoup back the $47 premium from the minute efficiency differences between 80 Plus Gold and Silver (which is like 2%).

P.S: After some calculation, you ought use this Leadex Gold more than 10 years to break even with Leadex Silver :s13:

*Calculation based on a rms of 300W (on full load) system and 12 hours usage everyday.

You can use these codes on the Lazada app (copied from $face post) -

SAFRANEW $15 off min $60 spending (for new customers)
Use this before any other code to prevent nullification
SAFRAYAY $10 off min $60 spending
SINGLAZNEW 15% off max $20 discount

Thanks for the codes, SAFRANEW is fully redeemed so I only got to use SINGLAZNEW for the maximum discount.

Changed PSU to SF Leadex silver 550W but it only runs for a while then switches off again. No response for a while after that.
There is a high pitched sound from the PSU even when it is not running? Not sure if that's the problem.

I suggest you trouble-shoot and identify the problem first before buying more parts. Have you tried re-seating the CPU HSF?

Yup. re-seated heat sink (CM Hyper TX3 Evo) and applied thermal paste.
Hard to trouble shoot cause not booting at all. And every time after it fails then cannot power on at all. But then wait a while can try to boot again when I switch on :s22:

You can also try (1) replace the CMOS battery; (2) reset BIOS to default using the onboard jumper; (3) remove GPU (use onboard) and all memory except 1 stick.

yeah tried all those already. and also cleaning the gold contact on gpu and ram sticks.
If cannot trouble shoot soon then I think will just change mobo.
Lazada dont have skylake chips? or better to go SLS for mobo + chip bundles.
