Recently i accidentally formatted my Western Digital My Book.

Inside contend quite alot of important lifetime videos. i have tried using EaseUS, and iCare Data Recovery. Although both is able to detect those lost files, those files are in flv format instead of the previous mp4

when i tried to open the flv file, there is an error of corrupted file.

Any1 able to help recommend me any recovery software or how i do repair these corrupted flv file?

Well tbh once formatted data, u can only collect a small amount of data, otherwise is all Chuck's of useless scrap data. Not sure even those professional data recovery can get back all data or not.

Use vlc to open.

this is quite possibly one of the stupidest comment if i can ever see one.

but either way, back to topic, movie files due to the size of it will easily be overwritten. chances are its already partially overwritten. i personally will try using photorec to do data carving to recover everything and filter from there. alternatively, you can seek professional services but those are extremely expensive.

Hey there,

The next best thing to do now is to leave that drive alone. Do not attempt to make new files or copy new files over 'cause if you do, you will be reducing the chance of file recovery. What kind of format did you use? Low level or Windows disk management formatting?

When i plug the device to the PC, window prompt the message to do format before the device is able to be use.. i tried to cancel it. when i tried to access the drive it was inaccessible. so i did a quick format

And so far i only did data recovery on the disk. the flvs file was recover into another drive on my PC.

Oh dear. You should not have formatted the drive. You might have made it harder to recover.

If quick format, as in this case, it is possible to recover all the data as long as no new data is stored in the same disk. Don't frighten TS.

There are some professional data recovery companies that charges less than $500 for accidentally formatted disk.

Price is really subjective, depending on the value of the data to each individual.

hey,

you might want to give Louisloo method a try and see how it goes. but note that since you have quick format your drive, some data maybe irrecoverable and the price might be steep too. However, i have PM-ed you. Check your inbox :)

How did the hardware got burnt when you mentioned in your first post that you had accidentally formatted your disk?

Recently i accidentally formatted my Western Digital My Book.

at first i could not access the hdd while it was in the old enclosure. so i remove it from the enclosure.. when i plug it into my hdd docking hub, window prompt the message that the disk must be formatted to be able to use it. thus causing the formatting issue.

then i saw online that WD HDD has a hardware encryption chip. so i fix back the chip to the HDD. then the pc was not able to detect the HDD.. on closer examination of the chip i saw a free burnt mark on it.
