Recovering data from Seagate external hdd

Hi,

I have a Seagate Freeagent Goflex 1TB HDD which somehow crashed on my many flight trips am taking recently... When I connect it to my PC it simply says USB device not recognized. no drive appears.. I do not hear anything rattling inside as if it is broken... I have a lot of personal files too besides my work. Can anyone tell me a way to fix it by myself or suggest me some decent place in sim lim or close by to recover my data?

I really need some info fast. Please.

Unless you are prepared to spend $1K-$2K to get back the data .. if not don't bother.

You will be one of the few hundreds or thousand of people who do not backup your data and have to experience this painful event.

Please don't get me wrong that I am laughing at you ... I too have experience harddisk dying on me and lost all the data before. But thankfully, the very very important work file etc are on my RAID 1 harddisk which is much safer.

All the best for your hunt for a recovery solution. But all I can say is ... even those shop that you come across that they can recover your data and charge few hundred of dollars ... you can forget about those also.

So far, the only one that I know for sure can get back you data are in the clean room of Seagate. Which I got no idea how one could engage their service.

did u try connectg to another pc/laptop to cfm its not ur pc problem?

I dont know but try google testdisk by CGSecurity, its abit hard to understand but it managed to get back my data using photoRec, which is another software that is good. Do some trial n error.

Few problems can caused your drive to be undetectable.
First and foremost, try changing your cable. It could be loose due to the frequent usage.
Second, try taking out the drive and plug it directly to a SATA port. if it can be detected, do a checkdisk to restore your system files.

Finally, if all else fails, try this Data Recovery Singapore. They have the tools to recover your data if it is just a firmware corruption. There is no need to open your drive if the head is not defective.

Their prices are quite reasonable and not thousands of dollars.

Have you tried this Data Recovery service before? Is their pricing still reasonable if some hardware failure instead of just firmware corruption?

Basing on description of the failure, it could be just cable, connection problems, partition problems, firmware problems, pcb problems or even heads problems.

It is not conclusive that it is definitely a hardware problems that will need clean room facilities which will costs $1k to 2k.

When approaching data recovery companies, just tell them the problems you are facing. Do not jump to the conclusion that it is sure to be the hardware problems unless you are very sure eg. loud ticking noises. Let them do the analysis and come back to you with quotes. For all you know, it could be just a firmware corruption, which does not costs you a bomb.

Each data recovery companies have their own tools and specialisation and may diagnose your disk with different results. It is good to get different opinions before proceeding with the recovery.
