Hi,

I have accumulated over 100k miles over the years and will be redeeming it soon for the first time.

Some of my friends said to wait for SQ promo then redeem as it will be cheaper and less miles will be used but other friends said no such thing as it is based on distance and not price of ticket. Anyone can confirm which is right?

Redemption is based on mileage, not prices of air tickets. SQ has a 15% discount (have to check) if you do the redemption online.

You sure your miles are still valid? Never expire?

Everything is on the Krisflyer website. Factual info on it.

Miles at where?

SQ do very occasionally have redemption promotion, which gives 50% discount instead of the usual 15% discount, which indeed uses less miles. Redemption of SQ miles is based on zones (which are loosely based on distance), not on the actual distance travelled.

Miles with Citi Premier Miles and there is no expiry. Have not change to Krisflyer yet.

So any idea when will SQ have the next promotion for miles?

FYI, these are rather rare, compared to normal fare deals.

The last SQ redemption promotion was 2 years ago in June 2012 when air travel was bad.

50% Online Redemption Discount for Selected Flights

Silkair was last year.

Enjoy our SilkAir redemption promotion, with 50% off online redemptio

It used to be maybe about half yearly until they introduced Cash + Pay with Krisflyer miles ( about USD$10 for 1000 miles ).

I wouldn't hold my breath for it and would use up the miles at the earliest possible opportunity.

SQ will introduce Premium Economy and with that, introduce another tier or redemption and probably up all the miles needed for Business / First class flights in the process.

Hi all

Happy 2015!

Im travelling to London in Aug and the required SIA miles is 59,500 for return trip. Is it worth it considering that i have to top up $700+ for the taxes and fuel surcharges?

TIA!

worth it or not is very subjective. Depends on how you value your miles. IMO, miles should only be use in biz class and above. Perhaps you can try biz class 1 way and buy a separate return one way ticket.

Unfortunately a 1 way revenue ticket usually ain't worth it, usually 3/4 of the roundtrip price.
