reserve shinkansen ticket

Going to kyushu next year, will only be going to fukuoka and kumamoto.

was thinking if anyone did reserve shinkansen tix online and collect at station/ticket machine？ I am thinking of this since reserve online in advance is cheaper than buying regular ticket on the spot.

not getting jr pass as my itinerary bo hua in getting it.
