a quick question seeking some help:
- i have a ryzen 3600 setup, no OC and PBO off. the rest default. ram at 3600Mhz. idling around low 40s to mid 50s. In Cinebench R20, temp around 70, can see single core at 4.2Ghz. But in Prime 95, temp around 78 after 20 mins and once a while instananeous jump to 80 plus or so then drop back immediately to 70 plus.

i think the temp are fine, since idling temp depend on how i play with the fan curve. But in prime 95, i see none of the core reach 4.2Ghz. all of them just stop at around 4.1Ghz or so and sometime near 4ghz. is this consider normal ? temp from ryzen master.

Normal. Different apps load cores differently. Make sure you're on a Ryzen power plan also

Just curious, are you using the stock amd cooler? I'm getting very similar temp as you and I'm using the Wraith Prism cooler. Thinking if I should to upgrade to a beefier cooler.

i am using id cooling 224 xt which i think maybe only slightly better than the default cooler. while i realised the idling temperature seems on the high side, the fan is around 20% at this temp since i kind of hate the fan noise. I do have doubt if i had mounted the cooler correctly, but i also think the cinebench and prime 95 temp seems quite ok as it hardly cross 80 C at 70% fan speed. so still thinking about it.

Haha I'm having the same doubt on whether I mounted my cooler correctly and whether the thermal paste spread evenly. Quite tempted to re-apply the thermal paste.

Normal, 4.2GHz is for single core. Prime 95 loads all the cores so the max speed will be lower.

IIRC, ryzen master reports the averaged value over a certain time period so you are probably missing the occasional 4.2 ghz spikes.
