SAF Commando VA 2018

Hello people!
I'm an IB2 student, 18 years old, PES A and have already done my medical screening earlier this year. I was wondering about the Commando Vocational Assessment.

Some of my friends from other schools have already received their Commando VA letter at April while I have not. I thought maybe I had a good chance considering I had Full points for NAPFA (February 2018), 90 points for IPPT (early June 2018), and pretty decent grades. I was thinking maybe because I finished my IPPT at June that's why I have not received the letter.

Hence, I was wondering if there are more VA letters being given out later this year for IB/JC students? And is it true that those with eye degree above 300 do not qualify for the Commando VA?

The way you put it sounded as it is a matter of when but not if that you will get the letter. But unfortunately, that’s not the case.

Getting full points for NAPFA and 90 for IPPT and “pretty decent grades” doesn’t mean anything if those aren’t the criteria necessary for one to be selected for the VA.

Also, I recommend not to find reasons to comfort self as to why you have not gotten the letter. Cause maybe you didn’t get cause you are not selected to begin with.

Napfa/ippt is just one of their criteria only. Last time i was Pes A and gotten a Gold for my Napfa but also didnt get chosen for commando.
If you are wondering if you can get the letter for next batch of commando VA, maybe you should call the NS hotline and ask?

Yup I do realise that there are other criterias outside of fitness, I just thought I had a better chance at it haha. But thanks for the reply! I'll look foward to whatever opportunities I get from NS hahaha.

Which IB school are you from? And are you a Singapore citizen.

I knew of people who got eye degrees above 400, barely scrapped through Nafa/IPPT, didn't do too well in grades, also did IB got called for commando VA last year but was somewhere around April

Of course he didn't get selected

that may not be the reason why they did not get selected.
