Prices are getting ridiculous
Why won’t one go for laptop with such price ?
Same question I ask myself... but then again a tablet has certain functionality and ease of use that a Windows laptop or even 2-in-1 doesn't have yet... it's the instant on, instant connectivity... we may see the gap close when Microsoft decides that it should take on mobile computing using Qualcomm chips in a big way... that may pave the way for even desktops to be like our current tablets... very useful for productivity...

Agree on the instants, even though boot-up time on laptops has improved a lot.
One thing I don’t like about tablet is ability to “right click” which is now done by long-holds and that decrease my productive :(

Use a stylus lor... it has right click if you prefer that... the S7 & S6 have that function on their styli... the Galaxy Note series had that for years... I don't know about Apple Pencil though... never used one...

The Apple Pencil is really quite expensive... but it is good... from all that I have read... you've got to try the S7 S-Pen and see if it is as good...

If you are very used to Apple's ecosystem, I feel you will struggle with the transition. I've mostly been using iPads when I choose a tablet. Used a couple of tablets from Asus in the past but just don't like the battery life. Recently after a deep and long consideration, I decided not to go with iPad this time round and went for a Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ due to the below reasons,
1. Apps - I don't use many apps nowadays since I use my tablet primarily for surfing net, and streaming shows. Otherwise, the apps on Android is mostly uninteresting and unoptimised for big screens. There are very little apps that you can buy since I would say 90 to 95% appears as "free" but are actually subscription based.

2. Screen - Again, I went for the OLED and 16:9 for with movies/ shows in mind. iPads are great for reading, but will have thick black bars above and below when playing shows.

3. Pen - comes with the S-pen which is nice for my daughter to draw
After switching for a couple of months now, I think I am ok with the Samsung tab. So it really depends on your use case.

In my opinion, Samsung is trying too hard to be like Apple. While Samsung have the advantage of having OLED screen, that feature itself is not enough to sway people to buy their tablet (depends on individuals' use case). The app support for tablets is bad, and the SOC that they are using is not that powerful when you compare to say the Apple's M1 chip. So I feel its got its merits, but its got more cons to consider shelling out that much money on it.

Why leh? Change ecosystem is very costly...
Why costly? In my opinion, if you have a lot of apps that you need for serious work on an iPad, its highly unlikely that you will switch to Android because the apps are badly optimised for tablets. And also because Android tablets runs on the same SOC as their mobile phone counterparts, its generally not as powerful as what you get on an iPad. Which also impacts the performance on apps. I've made the switch recently, but not really incurring much cost.

I honestly don't understand this app support on tablets is bad thing for Android... I don't feel hard done by that... I've been using Android tablets exclusively I suppose... so I don't know what I am missing... but when I move to an iPad, the interface is just impossibly unusable - basically I don't work that way when I need something... but as it is, the apps I use on my Android tablet don't seem to have anything amiss... I use the Google Suite of apps like Maps, Gmail, Chrome, Vanced YouTube... Microsoft Word, OneNote, recently a bit of MeWatch, like you I'm usually on the browser... stream using Chromecast here and there... so I would like to know from your perspective since you've used the iPad extensively and recently moved to an Android tablet, what is it you see as not up to scratch on an Android tablet? Would appreciate it very much... thanks!

Some people still switch if they find that they can still use the same apps on an Android tablet... they probably have to re-purchase their subscriptions again lor... some subscriptions allow you to switch operating systems it seems? I suppose if you're not invested in the app ecosystem then the cost of moving is simply the price of the hardware...

Asus... sigh... my experience also not very good... the specs always promise a lot but the actual performance leaves a lot to be desired... that's my experience with a tablet and a laptop...

Poor app support for Android tablet is a known issue. If you take the Google apps out of the equation, no less than half the apps that you get from the store don't really work well with the bigger screen. So what you get is a mobile phone version that is stretched to fit the screen. I rarely run into the issue because the only apps I use on my Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ are,
1. Netflix,
2. Disney+
3. Youtube
4. Chrome
5. Samsung apps for drawing and writing

Most of these apps work well on the tablet, but it really depends on what each person is planning to use the tablet for. If one is app usage heavy, i.e. download a lot of different apps, then chances of running into unoptimized app is going to be more common.

Having used iOS as long as Android, my personal opinion is that the Google PlayStore have less things to purchase because I would say 90% of the apps are "free", either with adverts or purely subscription based. The unfortunate fact is that while Apple's App Store still have more apps/games selections that you can pay a 1 off fee, the trend of subscription based app is growing there over the years.

I see... Now that you mention it... Mostly it's small company gaming apps which are poorly executed... I have a few which I hardly use now like Root Beer Tapper, Word Crossy, Word Collect, Tap Tap Difference but Hill Climb Racing looks good ... The big brand name companies games don't seem to have this problem... I used to play Real Racing 3, Asphalt Racing and they looks great... Other EA games also look ok... I use Shopee, Qoo10, Lazada, Taobao, Amazon, Carousell also seem ok to me... these I use occasionally, travel apps like RentalCars, Booking.com, Agoda, iChangi, Singapore Air, Jetstar, also streaming apps like MeWatch, iQiyi, Youku, food delivery platforms like Good Panda and Grab Food... They look ok to me... Don't seem stretched... Or my eyes just got used to their stretched interface? :p
