My Samsung Note 4 keeps rebooting itself. After power on, it would reboot after 5s and does so continuously.

I have replaced with a new battery and still the problem.

How much would it cost to get the phone fixed?
And where I go for the repair?

Try to reset the phone. From power off. Press and hold - button and power on together. Not sure if this is right procedure as sold my note 4 sometime back.

Think it is one of the chip problem (think it is EMC or something like that). My note 4 got same problem. Auto shutdown n won’t reboot. Then wait a while then can reboot. And finally it die. Ask many shops all said no spare parts. So just give up.

Seriously would discourage u from seeking repairs, as repairing an old model would set u back hefty repair costs. A used korean note 4 (albeit with burn-ins, used and weak battery) cost only $79 in qoo10, even lesser with coupons. I recently bought one to play with it.

If you want to self help and check if its salvageable, do the following:

1) Press and hold these 3 buttons (Power, volume DOWN and home buttons) for 5 secs. When u see a warning sign, press volume up button. This is to enter the download mode of the phone. Let it stay there for 5 minutes to see if it auto-reboots on its own.

if it did not reboot, power off it by pressing and holding the power button until the phone turns off.

2) Press and hold these 3 buttons (Power, volume UP and home buttons) for 5 secs. It should boot to the recovery mode of the phone. Let it stay there for 5 minutes to see if it auto-reboots on its own.

If either of these 2 cases, the phone still reboots on its own, the motherboard/hardware is faulty and its best to get a new phone. If it did not, the phone may be saved. We can proceed to other troubleshooting.

Hope to hear the results from you again.

Might be corrupted system. Factory reset it first. If use for awhile after factory and the problem is back, its emmc failure. Meaning the memory chip is dying.

If your phone not only auto restart, the phone also lags alot and took a very long time to exit sleep mode, it can be emmc failure as well.

Theres a way to keep using phone for awhile. Install wake lock and dont let the phone sleep. Will drain your batt. This method can let you use the phone for around 3 to 6 months before total dead.

For repair, the only way is to change the motherboard. As theres no way to change the emmc chip only, for note 4 that is.

I would advise to go to wipe cache from recovery mode first before factory reset, since factory reset will wipe out all data.

Do a wipe cache and see if it works. If problem still persist, crossfingers that bootloader is unlocked. Then can install twrp custom recovery to do data recovery.

Else no choice has to factory reset.

Thank you for all the advice.
As per advice by Remless, (1) when phone goes into download mode, it would just stay there. Can't be powered down. I have to manually remove the battery to power down.
(2) when booting into recovery mood, it shows a DM-verification failed message.

I would try doing a factory reset and see how.

if still fail, would need to get a new phone.

I think u did something that circumvent the security of the phone. It's effectively softbricked. You probably cannot even do a factory reset.

It's fixable though, but be careful and download the correct firmware for your variant (Note 4 has a lot of variants).

https://appuals.com/dm-verity-need-to-check-verification-failed-drk-first/

To check which variant your phone is, remove the battery from the phone. There is a serial number sticker inside the battery compartment.

Look for NXXXA

XXX = 3 digits
A = an alphabet.

For eg, my Korean note 4 is N916K

You are welcomed. Hope that you are able to breath life to it.

I flashed mine with custom rom. Now it's running on Android 7 nougat with Samsung experience UI (launch os of s8). It's now having a new lease of life with a modern os and a modern ui.

If your set is running on snapdragon chipset, u can even flash a Android 9 (pie) rom.

Some people still selling note 3 in carousell. :)

Maybe can try changing the batteries. I bought third party gold battery from qoo10 ($8) can still last me one day, or 3hr+ non-stop youtube streaming at 1080p.

Flashing custom roms of higher android versions seems to help battery life a bit. Of course its not as snappy as previous yrs/current yr flagships, but still usable for low expectation users.
